Hey everyone! ๐ Has anyone ever experienced a situation where they’re trying to track down an old pension plan from a previous job? I recently realized that I never received any payouts or information from my former employer’s pension plan from 6 years ago, and now I’m on a mission to find it. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
– Contacted the old company’s HR, but they no longer have access to the information
– Reached out to the larger group that now owns the company, waiting to hear back from them
– Called Canada Life and Sunlife (potential pension providers), but they couldn’t locate any records of me
I’m starting to feel a bit lost, especially since I can’t find my old tax slips either. ๐ Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice on how to track down a lost pension plan? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated! Let’s help each other out in this process of finding missing pensions. ๐๐ฐ
You would still have your pension I would review your documents if you donโt understand it pay a fee only financial advisor
As I said your original documents will have it all writing. It should have your policy number thatโs all they need. What could of happened also if you moved and forgot to update your address they could of sent it to your old address
You should have received either an RRSP transfer, a locked in RRSP, or a return of contributions in either RRSP form or in cash form. If that last it may have been taxed at return as it would be equivalent to cashing a RRSP.
I would call the CRA and find out what was reported by the company (and you) over those years, as it should be reflected in your taxes. Pension room results in changes to your RRSP room.
Once you have that, go back to the employer and tell them you have statements proving you and/or they contributed, and you need them to get their shit together and get you your money. ie: or itโll become a governmental taxation and/or reporting issue.
