🐶 Hey there lovely dog parents! 🐱 Have you ever wondered if your furry friends can tell when you’re on your period, just like they seem to sense when you’re pregnant? Let’s dive into this interesting topic together! 🩸
Can Dogs/Pets Recognise When You’re on Your Period?
Yes, dogs and pets can indeed pick up on the changes in your scent and hormones during your menstrual cycle. While their ability to detect these changes may vary from one pet to another, some common observations include:
1. Heightened Sense of Smell:
– Dogs have a powerful sense of smell that allows them to detect even subtle changes in your scent when you’re on your period.
– Pets may exhibit curious or attentive behavior as they try to understand the new scent they pick up.
2. Changes in Behavior:
– Some pets may become more clingy or protective during your period, sensing your hormonal changes.
– Other pets may exhibit avoidance behavior or become more aloof, depending on their individual reactions.
3. Physical Cues:
– Pets may pick up on physical cues like your body language, movements, or changes in routine that accompany your period.
– They may react differently based on these cues, showing signs of recognition or confusion.
Does Their Behavior Change or Is It Business as Usual?
Ultimately, how your dogs or pets react to your period will depend on various factors like their individual personalities, bond with you, and sensitivity to changes. While some pets may show noticeable changes in behavior, others may carry on as normal without any apparent differences.
Remember, each pet is unique, so their response to your menstrual cycle may vary. Keep an eye out for any subtle cues or changes in behavior to understand how your furry friends perceive your period.
In conclusion, dogs and pets can indeed recognize when you’re on your period, largely due to their acute sense of smell and ability to detect hormonal changes. Whether their behavior changes or remains the same, it’s all part of the special bond you share with your beloved companions! 🐾
Keep loving and caring for your furry friends during every phase of your life, including your period! 🌸 #furryfriends #bond #periodlove
I’ve never noticed any changes with my dog or cats during my menstrual cycle.
No noticeable changes based on my menstrual cycle itself. If I seem sick or in pain, my cats will often be extra cuddly, but that’s not specific to my menstrual cycles.
My brother’s dog will plant her face in my crotch and sniff aggressively for as long as I let her when I’m on my period. That’s about it though.
My 2 male dogs are oblivious to it, my little good girl is all up in my business during my period. For the 4-5 days she becomes more protective of me than usual. Asked our vet about it, apparently she senses the change in my body and feels the need to protect.
My puppy is only 4 months but I haven’t really noticed anything. Perhaps he sniffs my crotch a bit more
I’m a hamster parent.. nothing changed, he only cares about food lol
My cat is usually extra cuddly when I’m on my period. He’s super sweet.
She obviously sniffs me more but she also rests her head on my lap less when I’m on 🥹
My pets have never reacted to it, but I used to work with a stallion that would call to me everytime I walked by. It was so creepy.
My mini heeler snuggles up next to my stomach and TBH she’s the BEST remedy for cramps.
My male GSD comes and sticks his nose right in my crotch, lol. Which is something he normally doesn’t do.
My female GSD seems oblivious, but she’s very neurotic in general, so she may change and notice it as she settles in. (All my dogs are rescues and have had some period of adjustment.)
Big time behavior change. I have 2 F dogs and one of them gets super possessive. Like will actively guard me from my other dog. Not let her lay near me unless I intervene. She also gets very kissy. Will spend an increased amount of time giving me kisses on my arms. It’s bizarre.
He doesn’t notice. Or care. I think he just doesn’t care lol.
At first, when my dog was younger, he’d be scared of me on my first or second day, and the rest of the days he warmed up more and more… as he got older he happened to catch me with a used sanitary product and smelt it, since then he’s more cuddly when it starts. I get worried when he doesn’t act weird around me when I’m supposed to start 😂
My dogs and cat didn’t notice when I was pregnant and they don’t notice my period either 😂
My dog likes to stick her nose in my crotch.
My brothers dog will excitedly sniff all over me, then grab his favorite toy, stare into the void and hump away.
My husband’s cat kept trying to feed me. He was a hunter so he would bring his prizes to our outside bedroom door and yell until *I* came to admire his gifts.
With my youngest, I had a bathroom chaperone to supervise my vomiting.
My male cat displays guarding behaviours and gets aggressive with my female cat, but it seems to be waning as he ages.
My cat acts like I’m bleeding to death, every month for the last sixteen years. She is very attentive, and will lay on my lap a lot which is basically just like a free heating pad. She’ll sleep on my pillow to monitor me through the night. It’s hilarious and adorable.
My cat only ever guards my bathroom door for me while I’m on my period
My dogs used to smell my crotch haha
My 3 dogs will check me out for a minute on the first day I start bleeding. They take a good solid sniff of me, try to do a crotch sniff, and then they’re over it. Business as usual. They do the same when anything changes with me—I’m pretty sick, or I’ve been gone for a few days, or I had the nerve to pet another dog while I was out. Honestly, they’re more concerned when I’m genuinely sick and they check in with me a lot more often. One of my dogs will constantly try to press me (lay his torso against mine for comfort) when I’m sick or upset, but he doesn’t care about periods.
Seems to be no difference with the 3 boys… The girl seems to be “nicer”…? Just a bit more soft and friendly? She’s generally very cuddly and clingy but in a more aggressive way (she’s kinda a huge diva)… but on my period she just won’t be so pushy.
Don’t think the male cats do anything noticeably different either.
My cat is naturally pretty clingy, almost always curled up on my right leg everytime I am sitting down. But when I’m on my period, she lays across my hips, right where I’m cramping, and it feels amazing (the pressure plus how hot she is…exactly what I need) and I honestly have no idea how she knows to lay there this certain week of the month.
Two Labradors. My girl (8) is absolutely clueless to my emotions etc & doesn’t notice. My boy (recently passed at 13) was completely in tune with my emotions & always wanted to be able to comfort me.
When I have my period I’ve always had severe cramps, like can’t do anything, doubled over in pain crying cramps. My boy would always sook at me to let him come & cuddle up to me the whole time. He’d get extremely clingy. My girl would still try to be silly & crazy & play or climb on me but during my period, he would keep himself between me & her & try to stop her from getting too crazy on me. It felt like he knew I had no energy & just needed calm love so he was making sure that’s what I got lol. It was something i loved so much about him ❤️ he always knew when I was really down or upset & would want to be right at my side to snuggle & cheer me up. He was the most amazing boy ❤️
Sometimes my cats will be nicer to me but but when my dad was sick, my cat would always be practically attached to him.
My dog doesn’t care about my cycle, but she was very close to me when I was pregnant. I had a missed abortion, and I realised in retrospect that she stopped being clingy about the time the foetus stopped developing. She was suuuuper close and protective of me as I was grieving the loss, and also after whenever I’m sad. She’s the best ❤️
Back when I had periods (i skip placebo pills on my OC), my service dog would act different in that he’d want to be closer and out of the house he was on constant guard and trying to herd me into “safer” areas for him to go potty.
My dog never seemed to notice or care.
My sister’s dog used to dig through the garbage and eat pads and tampons.
Otherwise nothing.
Mine is aware I think, and seems to know it means I’m mostly couch bound for a few days and doesn’t get mad at me for missing walks. If he can tell I’m just being lazy or hungover he barks at me til I get up haha
My female dog did not change behaviour with me during pregnancy. However, she did change behaviour towards other dogs when passing close by to me, she got aggressive even with dogs she had a normal social playful life.
On my period, she never changed her behaviour. Probably noticed the smell of blood but didn’t change how she normally is.
One of my cats doesn’t act any different, my soul cat comes and cuddles me and lays on my tummy ☺️
Our dog goes right for the crotch. Mommy hates it. 😂
My horses don’t really like me when I’m on a period. Don’t want me near them and are a bit fizzy when out riding. Mares.
Noses right up in the girl business. That’s how I know my dog and all dogs know.
my dog lifts their head when I’m nearby and sniffs around like trying to find source of it, or if right beside them they start sniffing around my butt or crotch area
My dog tends to curl up around my feet during any other time, but during my period he curls up around my tummy. He’s like a fluffy hot water bottle. No idea if he’s trying to comfort me, or if it’s because I’m usually lying down more during my period so he takes advantage of that spot being more available. Maybe both.
My dogs don’t react to it at all. They react to me being in pain or very sad, also they react to me being drunk (they’re always careful when they smell alcohol on me – I think the guy who had them originally was aggressive when drunk – but once they make sure I treat them the same, they calm down). But period, nope, they don’t care.
My dog is really in tune with my emotions. If I’m feeling a bit off, or, during my period, in a lot of pain, he gets cuddly and protective and follows me around.
When I was pregnant he would always lie next to me with his head or a little paw near my tummy.
He comes up and sniffs me, licks my face, then wanders off sometimes.
He’s a good boy 🙂
Nothing noticable. Though, she went into her first heat on the first day of my period…I always wonder if we didn’t spay her if we’d always start on the same day lol
