🌞 To those who work outdoors or not at a desk, have you ever considered how your work environment impacts your leisure activities like gaming?
As a non-desk worker, you may find yourself feeling more tired or sore after a long day of physical labor. This can have a direct impact on your gaming preferences and comfort level. In this article, we’re going to explore how different work environments can influence gaming preferences. We’ll also discuss some tips for non-desk workers to enhance their gaming experience.
## Impact of work environment on gaming preferences
### Physical fatigue
– Outdoor workers often engage in physically demanding activities such as construction, landscaping, or agriculture. After a long day of physical labor, the last thing you want is to sit at a desk and play video games.
– Instead, you may prefer to lounge on a comfortable couch or bean bag chair, allowing your body to relax and recover from the day’s exertion.
### Mental fatigue
– Non-desk workers may also experience mental fatigue from dealing with the elements, problem-solving in a dynamic environment, or managing outdoor tasks.
– In contrast to desk workers who may seek a change of scenery by gaming at a couch, you might prefer to game in an environment that’s completely different from your work setting.
### Comfort and ergonomics
– For outdoor or non-desk workers, finding a comfortable gaming setup is crucial. Ergonomic considerations like posture, back support, and screen positioning are especially important after a day of physical labor.
– A couch or a recliner can provide the comfort and relaxation you need, relieving your body from the strain of your work environment.
## Enhancing the gaming experience
### Invest in ergonomic gaming gear
– Consider purchasing an ergonomic gaming chair or a recliner with built-in lumbar support. This will help alleviate any back or neck pain caused by your work environment.
– Look for gaming accessories that prioritize comfort and ergonomics, such as a gaming keyboard and mouse with adjustable features.
### Create a dedicated gaming space
– If possible, set up a dedicated gaming area in your home that’s separate from your work environment. This will help you mentally disconnect from your work and fully immerse yourself in your gaming experience.
– Personalize your gaming space with comfortable seating, good lighting, and gaming-themed decor to make it an inviting and relaxing environment.
### Take breaks and incorporate physical activity
– Incorporate regular breaks into your gaming sessions to stretch or move around. This can help counteract the physical toll of your work environment and prevent stiffness or soreness.
– Consider adding some light exercises or stretches before or after gaming to promote relaxation and recovery for your body.
## Final thoughts
Whether you work outdoors or not at a desk, your work environment can significantly influence your gaming preferences and comfort level. By understanding the impact of your work on your leisure activities, you can make informed choices to enhance your gaming experience. Investing in ergonomic gaming gear, creating a dedicated gaming space, and incorporating physical activity can help non-desk workers enjoy gaming to its fullest potential. So, the next time you’re winding down from a long day of physical labor, consider optimizing your gaming setup for maximum comfort and enjoyment. 🎮🌿
I have a comfy chair. It’s not a pro gaming chair, it’s not a recliner.
It’s comfy and sits right in front of my tv.
I work outside all day.
I’m outside and on my feet all day and def a sit on the floor or couch person. Serious work gets done on the desktop in the other room on a desk, PS 5 Switch and gaming PC from the couch or floor
I’m a biologist who spends 60-85% of my workday in a lab sitting either at a bench or a Biosafety Cabinet. I prefer to game at my desk/PC. Really interesting question!
Couch. Easily.
I spend 10+ hours on my feet outdoors two hours north of Toronto, and the weather ranges from feeling like 35°C in the summer to -40°C in the winter. If I’m not walking through the plant I’m spending my days outside on a parking lot where this is little shade and less protection from the winds.
I get home and plant myself in a fucking Lazyboy reclining couch with a beer in hand and a controller in the other. I don’t even have a fucking monitor for my PC. I have a wireless on+m setup and my 65″ 4K TV located seven feet away from where I sit acts as one.
My work is a mix of sitting and standing. I’m also old.
So my gaming set-up is an adjustable bed like you’d see at a hospital, and a gaming laptop on a side table, also like what you’d see in a hospital.
Practicing for my deathbed, I guess…
I work asphalt and prefer sitting on my bed or a desk chair. I can’t lay down while gaming even slightly. I need my poor gamer posture in a shitty chair or off the edge of my bed to focus lol
Indoors, but standing whole day, prefer desk all the way, its comfy, but not sleep-comfy plus playing anything even slightly needing manual aiming is no-go on controller, I like playing games myself
I climb in out of holes all day. Shoveling. You know. Excavating and stuff.
I don’t have a preference as long as I’m sitting on my ass. I have a great recliner downstairs so I can play switch games while my wife watches tv. In the office is this really comfortable chair I bought second hand for $6 when I was in college. The comfiest office chair I’ve over say in. Probably because it leans back.
I think the key for me is being able to lean back. Takes stress off my back.
Couch for console gaming and desk for PC gaming.
I work construction but I’m a pc gamer so I prefer a desk
I’ve always hated gaming at a desk, even when I worked at one. I prefer to sit on the floor and lean back against the couch.
I work railroad so I’m outside all day. I prefer sitting on my comfy couch, putting my feet up and gaming. I’ve tried sitting at a desk and gaming, but it’s not for me.
I work outside 90% of the time. I just recently got a desk and a new computer. I am loving it. Before that I was a console player on a TV, sitting on the couch. I now prefer my desk setup. There’s lots of factors besides desk vs couch going on though.
Construction worker-turned-game dev here, so I went from working outdoors to working at a desk. Absolutely prefer the couch.
i’m a carpenter, i prefer my desk since my two monitors are on it and im not far away from the screens
Couch. Back kills. Need a new couch.
Couch or my bed. I work outside 100% of my shift. I just like to kick back and relax after a long day’s work.
I have both set ups, and both are used and enjoyed 😁
Machinist here. On my feet indoors for 10 hour shifts. Couch with my family and pets for me.
I work construction and I cannot play video games sitting across the room on a couch, i just can’t do it, it feels so disconnected. I get my moon chair and put it right in front of the tv
I work outside, so I have a nice comfy recliner.
I’m walking around and pushing carts all day, so I prefer playing games while sitting, desk or couch both work for me. The way my bedroom is set up, my desk sits opposite my TV and right next to my bed, so depending on what I’m feeling like I’ll either sit at my desk and face my TV, or sit in bed with one of those backrest pillows
When I changed from an active job to a desk job, it almost immediately made me enjoy gaming at my PC less.
I got a switch, and it’s radically changed how I play games. I now really enjoy the flexibility to be in about position other than sitting at a desk like I’m at work haha
Desk for my PC in my office. Nice big sectional in my living room for my PS5 and another couch in the basement with a tv for old consoles.
It depends on the game. If I’m playing stardew, I want to be on the couch. If I’m playing Hunt Showdown or Dead Space remake, I want to be at my desk.
Couch for me.
I work from home and am a PC gamer, A LOT of my time is spent at a desk lol
Work in a workshop as a mechanic, so not outdoors but also not at a desk
Main part of my gaming does happen at a desk
I make deliveries all day (minimum 12 hour work days Monday-Friday) so I have a mix of driving and putting product up in stores. It doesn’t really matter where I sit because there’s a very good chance I’m falling asleep within 15 minutes of starting up a game.
I used to have a computer desk but ever since I started gaming on a laptop and sitting in a lazy boy I will never go back. Yeah laptops aren’t nearly as good as desktops for gaming but comfort is most important for me these days.
I work remote and it’s hard to spend 8 hours working then more hours at that same desk gaming. I prefer couch gaming but going to the gym in between work and gaming makes it so I can go back to my desk for the evening if I want to play on my PC.
I have a desk with an office chair. My chair isn’t fancy, I fished it out of the trash. It’s comfortable and it leans really far back.
I’m on my feet all day, I game on my couch.
I have an office chair that’s comfy, but I only use it for writing up estimates and invoices.
