Are you availability for email responses on weekends, particularly from candidates or new hires? I have a new hire with an email issue that IT will fix on Monday. Should I respond over the weekend or wait until Monday? I prefer to set boundaries and avoid seeming constantly available.
## Email Availability on Weekends
– Do you respond to emails from candidates or new hires on weekends?
– Balancing availability and setting boundaries.
– Handling non-urgent email requests on weekends.
### Urgency and Boundaries
– When to respond to non-urgent emails.
– Setting communication expectations with new hires.
– Ensuring a healthy work-life balance for yourself and your team.
By being selective about when to respond to emails, you can maintain a healthy work-life balance and set clear boundaries for your availability.
Hell no
Oh heeeelllll no
Only if they are at the offer negotiation/ acceptance stage. Otherwise no, you need boundaries to maintain a healthy balanced life.
I would not reply in your situation. It is not urgent and does not require an immediate response. I only respond if it’s related to an offer that was extended (questions, negotiating, etc.) or if they are a remote candidate that’s supposed to be starting on Monday and didn’t receive their equipment yet. Other than that, people can wait until Monday during my regular working hours!
Nope. My core hours are included in my email signature. Outside of that, don’t expect a response.
Our workplace culture is amazing, and our people are very respectful of each others’ personal time.
Yes
No and I don’t do phone screens on the weekends either
Depends how important the candidate is lol. If it’s a VP of Engineering candidate that I’ll be partnering with a lot on future positions, I’d probably reply on the weekend and create a good first impression. If it’s a $15/hour forklift operator who will probably end up quitting in a month, I’m not going to reply and will just wait until Monday.
Nope. In my search time I call it a week Thursday afternoon. No one is scheduling calls, screens, Zooms for Friday anyway. I suspect a lot of people check out the same too or early/mid day Friday.
Nope
No and I don’t take my work phone on vacations either.
Nope
I delete my work email app and slack from my phone every Friday. I’ll reinstall it on Monday as I’m getting going. This was advice from our TA Leader when they joined about 4 years ago.
Only for extreme circumstances
A coworker told me once – if you are responding after work hours / weekends – it shows that your company (internal) does not offer a healthy work life balance.
I don’t even answer my manager or hiring managers calls in my off hours
