#Layoff #CareerChange #OpenEnrollment #WorkLifeBalance
Hey everyone! 😊 Just wanted to share a bit of what’s been going on with me lately. A few days ago, I expressed how overwhelmed I felt in my current job role, especially with Open Enrollment just around the corner. This whole week, I really focused on getting things organized and ensuring everything was on track to help the team. But then, bam! Out of nowhere, my manager tells me I’m getting laid off due to some revenue stream issues and company restructuring. 😟
It’s tough when you pour so much effort into your work, only to find out it might not matter in the grand scheme of things. Here are a few pain points I’ve noticed from this situation:
- Increased Anxiety: The uncertainty that comes with layoffs can lead to significant stress and anxiety, not only for those affected but also for the whole team.
- Team Dynamics Disruption: Restructuring often leads to a shift in team roles and responsibilities, creating confusion and potentially impacting productivity.
- Heavy Workload for Remaining Staff: With fewer people to handle the workload, those who remain may feel even more stretched, especially with impending deadlines like Open Enrollment.
So, what can we do about it? Here are a few possible solutions that might help:
- Open Communication: Maintain transparent conversations with management about restructuring and how it affects the team.
- Proactive Planning: Encouraging proactive planning for times of uncertainty can help teams stay on track and reduce anxiety.
- Support Systems: Building a support system within the team can make a huge difference, allowing us to lean on each other during tough times.
Have any of you experienced a layoff or team restructuring before? What insights or tips do you have for dealing with these changes? It would be great to hear your thoughts and experiences! 🙌
It’s amazing what management does not know or appreciate.
They will choke and dump it on someone…They do not have a clue what it takes to keep HR functioning.
So sorry you are being impacted.
The upside is that open enrollment is not your problem. I’ve been in HR for 3 decades and have had my position eliminated three times. HR will always be overhead and this is a risk that everyone takes who chooses to work in the field. I feel for you and the job market sucks right now. Ask for severance and file for unemployment immediately.
