🤔 Have you ever dealt with a situation where your managers or colleagues seemed to have the worst listening skills ever? It can be incredibly frustrating and can have a significant impact on your work and personal life. Unfortunately, poor listening skills in the workplace are more common than you might think, and they can lead to a range of issues, including decreased productivity, low morale, and even job loss. Let’s dive into the impact of poor listening skills and how to deal with them effectively.
##The Impact of Poor Listening Skills in the Workplace
###Decreased productivity
– When managers and colleagues don’t listen effectively, it can lead to miscommunication, misunderstandings, and wasted time.
– This can result in decreased productivity, missed deadlines, and a negative impact on the overall performance of the team.
###Low morale
– Feeling like your concerns and ideas are constantly being ignored can lead to low morale and a lack of motivation among employees.
– This can create a toxic work environment and lead to higher turnover rates as employees seek a more supportive and listening-friendly workplace.
###Job insecurity
– If poor listening skills from managers lead to issues like reduced hours, lack of support, or unfair treatment, it can create feelings of job insecurity and stress.
– This can significantly impact an employee’s mental health and overall well-being, leading to a decrease in job satisfaction and loyalty to the company.
##Dealing with Poor Listening Skills Effectively
###Open communication
– It’s essential to communicate openly with your managers and colleagues about the impact of their poor listening skills on your work and well-being.
– Express your concerns in a calm and professional manner, and provide specific examples of how their lack of listening is negatively affecting the team and the business.
###Seeking support
– If your direct manager or HR department seems unresponsive to your concerns, consider seeking support from higher-level management or external resources.
– Document your interactions and any instances of poor listening skills, and don’t hesitate to escalate the issue if necessary to ensure your voice is heard and your concerns are addressed.
###Self-advocacy
– Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and your needs in the workplace. If you’re experiencing reduced hours or unfair treatment due to poor listening skills, take proactive steps to address the situation.
– This may involve searching for new job opportunities or consulting with a legal professional if you believe your rights are being violated.
###Moving on
– Sometimes, despite your best efforts, poor listening skills in the workplace may persist, and the best decision for your well-being and career advancement may be to move on to a new job.
– Take the time to update your resume, network with other professionals, and actively seek out new job opportunities that align with your skills and values.

I once took a second job at JC Penny, and told the department manager that the only evening I could not work was Thursday. Week after week, Thursday was the only day I was on the schedule, and I had to switch. Turns out she thought I said Thursday was only day I COULD work.
Sorry that’s what you get for over sharing at work. I guarantee if you said nothing about finding an apartment that your schedule would be fine.
A place did this to my wife and eventually just fired her before Christmas. We just had a baby so she started part time and originally they agreed to give her more hours each month if she requested it. She kept asking for more hours, never gave her them so she asking the supervisor to have a meeting about it only to be blindsided by the boss of the company on the zoom meeting with a PowerPoint saying it was her 90 day eval and termination.
It’s crazy because the job she had while pregnant kept giving her less hours to try and get her to force her to take a salary contract. She refused and was basically forced to quit because they reduced her hours to practically nothing. We are financially fvcked right now as i have been paying the bills alone for nearly a year and savings all gone.
Lying through their teeth they were “happy” for you. Never share good news with dregs my friend. If you’re working in the trench know others are miserable, they want you in the shit with them…if you share your happiness they’ll try to quash it away and snuff it out.
