Are you tired of annoying YouTubers or anyone else filming you without your consent? It can be frustrating and invasive to have someone recording you without your permission. But fear not, there is a clever trick you can use to deter them from capturing your image or voice on camera – start playing mainstream copyrighted music! 🎵
In this article, we will explore why playing copyrighted music can help protect your privacy, how it can act as a deterrent for unwanted filming, and provide some examples of popular songs you can use in this situation.
## Why Playing Copyrighted Music Works
When someone is filming you without your consent, they are essentially using your image or voice for their own purposes without permission. This can be a violation of your privacy rights, and you have the right to take action to protect yourself. Playing copyrighted music can help in this situation for a few reasons:
1. **Copyright Infringement**: By playing copyrighted music in the background of the video, the person filming you is inadvertently committing copyright infringement. This can open them up to legal action and deter them from using the footage.
2. **DMCA Takedown**: If the video is uploaded to a platform like YouTube or social media, you can submit a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown request to have it removed for using copyrighted music without permission.
3. **Annoyance Factor**: Mainstream copyrighted music is often popular for a reason – it’s catchy and easily recognizable. By playing these songs, you can annoy the person filming you and make it less enjoyable for them to continue recording.
## Examples of Copyrighted Music to Use
When it comes to choosing copyrighted music to play when someone is filming you without consent, the possibilities are endless. Here are a few examples of popular songs that can help protect your privacy:
– **”Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees**: This disco classic is upbeat and recognizable, making it a great choice to play in the background of a video.
– **”Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish**: This chart-topping hit is sure to catch the attention of anyone filming you, and maybe even make them think twice about using the footage.
– **”Happy” by Pharrell Williams**: The title says it all – this feel-good song can add a positive vibe to the situation while deterring unwanted filming.
## How to Handle the Situation
If you find yourself being filmed without your consent, here are some steps you can take to handle the situation effectively:
1. **Start Playing Copyrighted Music**: Choose a popular song and start playing it loudly in the background. This can help signal to the person filming you that you are aware of what they are doing and deter them from continuing.
2. **Communicate Your Discomfort**: Politely inform the person filming you that you do not consent to being recorded and ask them to stop. Sometimes, a simple conversation can resolve the issue without the need for further action.
3. **Seek Legal Advice**: If the person continues to film you without consent or refuses to stop, consider seeking legal advice to understand your options for protection under privacy laws.
In conclusion, playing mainstream copyrighted music when someone is filming you without your consent can be a creative and effective way to protect your privacy rights. By understanding the implications of using copyrighted music in videos and taking proactive steps to deter unwanted filming, you can assert your boundaries and maintain control over your own image and voice. Remember to stay informed about your rights and take action when necessary to protect yourself in these situations. 🎶
They’ll just remove the music
Keep in mind that they’ll get the DMCA take down and can simply file a counter notice that the music was incidental to the recording and the video will be restored.
I had a bunch of videos I made on Fremont Street, which got tagged because of the audio from the Fremont Street Experience, restored by doing exactly that.
I would just pull out my own phone to show them how stupid they look and record me stating: “You do not have my permission to record me and upload it to the Internet. If you do, I will file a lawsuit to seize the profits of your video.”
Point down and say do you know you’re unzipped!
Tell them to fk off.
Play the Eagles! It will get zapped in sec! The are seriously copyright hawks.
Does this happen a lot?
There are ways to remove background music or extract only voices from a video. While they might not be perfect, they are enough to avoid copyright claims.
Yeah but they still could show the video, without sound?
i tested this, and tried to see how long it would take to get the beatles-heyjude on my phone.
i was doing pretty good, until YT commercials tripled the time
My step is politely ask them to stop while walking away. If they don’t stop then ask again and keep walking away. If they still don’t stop and keep following you then assess the situation. “Can they figure out who I am if I successfully punch this mother fucker, steal his shit, and get away without my identity being revealed?” If the answer is yes then it’s okay to attack and rob him for being such an asshole. Otherwise just keep moving but stay in an area with a lot of people.
I’m not at all knowledgeable about copyright law, but would the annoying YouTuber even be subject to copyright law because of the music random people in public that they’re filming are playing?
This is an amazing idea.
“Zip-a-dee-do-da” is the one I would start playing.
Can I just punch them in the face?
This will 100% work. Source: YouTuber
Make a scene and shout they “need your consent to film” then call the police.
Eh fuck it. If they want to put a video of me on the internet I don’t really care that much.
Anything Metallica.
Can we not just shoot annoying YouTubers like in that one viral video?
Yell “cut” and ask them what your line is supposed to be here? How annoyed am I supposed to be in this scene?
The contestants did this a few years ago on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. When they wanted to have conversations etc they didn’t want to be broadcast, someone sang Beatles and Disney songs in the background. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-55216498
This actually doesn’t work anymore. YT changed their rules so “music captured incidentally” will not be removed. Also AI can edit the music out now anyways. Sorry.
Namely Video Killed the Radio Star.
Better advice, any time you think you are on camera, just smile, wave, and ignore
Better yet play a movie on your phone with the speakers on and hold it in front of you. Compromise their audio and video.
Just expose a nipple. Done and done.
This is something the police have done to combat citizens recording them and posting it online.
I think the worst are Prince, Eagles, Metallica and Queen. That’s off the top of my head so don’t quote me on that.
Did you just uncover gold here? Put up speakers everywhere like camera’s and just play the top hits 24/7. Everyone gets to listen to good music plus no more main characters
Just be boring. If they want to film you standing there ignoring them, let them. No one’s going to watch it.
Even if you were just having a heated argument and they pull a phone out to record you, stop everything you’re doing and pretend like nothing just happened.
People fishing for content is just like a kid chasing you with a bug or something gross. They want you to run away screaming because the reaction is what makes it fun. If the bug doesn’t scare you, it’s not fun for them.
Then they just mute the video?
This is hardly a pro tip. This would feasibly only affect someone who is live streaming
If the intent is evidentiary or for personal use, this does absolutely nothing at all
Iirc the Beatles are your best bet
i mean that only prevent them from playing audio from the video, they could just mute it or dub over it with other music
What is a good song to play that will easily get copyrighted??
Anything from Disney played very loudly should do the trick.
Except they have to edit the goddamn video regardless and cutting out the audio takes one second once you’re already editing
Fucking react channels literally do this for a living uploading 6 videos a day
And yes they can easily isolate your voice to the point that it sounds like they recorded you in sound booth
Dumbass tip for an almost nonexistent problem, par for the course here I guess
If police play copyrighted music in the background does it prevent you from uploading your interactions you recorded with them on social media? US LAW: **No, legally the music in the background would be considered de minimis**. The First Amendment interest in filming the police outweighs the Copyright.Feb 14, 2021
Sad flip side of this is cops do the same thing when being filmed
