Before I was partnered, an employee found me on a dating website!
I politely declined. My go to phrase is typically along the lines of “I appreciate you wanting to [get drinks, go out, be friends, etc] but due to my position, I try to keep a professional boundary between work and friends. Sadly, I must decline as a personal rule.”
As an extra precaution, I will screenshot the message and keep a note of what happened. Depending on the situation or what was said, you may want to loop your boss in, but it’s never gotten to that point for me.
This has happened to me as well. We had just adopted new HRIS system and apperantly the HRIS system was linking perosnal details with Team profiles and I was suprised by an EE calling me to discuss his grievances with our company.
This happened to me where a coworker got my phone number and text me out of the blue. I figure she got it from someone at work. The kicker is she had a live-in boyfriend and I was/am married. She kept talking to me at work too. WTF.
Don’t answer and block it…. I wouldn’t ever admit she got a correct number!
I am friendly with people from work, but I am not “friends” with any of them.
I politely decline all invitations, unless they are made to the staff as a whole. I’m not FB friends with anyone that I work with.
People have always seemingly been very accepting of my need to appear impartial and not have favorites. 😊
I wouldn’t respond to the text. I would talk to her after work hours. I would tell her that her getting your personal info is not cool and creepy. Be real af. Explain why dating isn’t happening. I dated someone at work once, and it was a disaster once that relationship ended. Bad idea to date coworkers. You know you can pull a background check if you pay for a service? That includes phone numbers etc.
