#UKJobScam #AdministrativeAssistant #JobAbroad #SalaryOffer #RedFlags
If you’re a job seeker like me, the thrill of receiving a job offer from abroad can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. As a 25-year-old female living in the Philippines, I recently encountered a situation that made me question the legitimacy of a job offer I received for an Administrative Assistant position in the UK. 🇵🇭
Red Flags in the Job Offer:
Upon receiving the email from a non-corporate email address, hr.*company name*@gmail.com, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of skepticism. 📧 The offer seemed too good to be true, with a monthly salary of £4,537 for a seemingly simple role. The mention of an “immigration healthcare surcharge” amounting to £400 to be paid by the employee raised further concerns.
Key Points to Consider:
1. Lack of Formal Interview: The fact that I was offered the position without a formal interview or any direct communication with the employer raised red flags. 🚩
2. Unusually High Salary: As a candidate from the Philippines, the salary offered seemed disproportionately high for the role of an Administrative Assistant in the UK.
3. Payment Requests: While no payment requests were made yet, the repeated emphasis on the immigration healthcare surcharge was unsettling.
Seeking Clarity and Validation:
Despite the uncertainties, the job offer included corporate documents like a Certificate of Sponsorship and a Letter of Appointment. This added a layer of legitimacy to the offer. However, the email address provided for UK Visas and Immigration, ukvisa.immigration@consultant.com, left me questioning the authenticity of the entire process. 🤔
Reaching Out for Advice:
As I navigate through this dilemma, I seek insights from others who may have encountered similar situations. Is this salary range normal for an Administrative Assistant position in the UK? 🧐 Should I proceed with the application process despite the red flags?
Summary:
Navigating through job offers from abroad can be a rollercoaster of emotions, especially when faced with uncertainty. While the lure of a high salary is enticing, it’s essential to tread cautiously and seek validation before committing to any financial obligations. As I continue to evaluate the authenticity of this offer, I remain vigilant and open to advice from fellow job seekers. Your thoughts and experiences are valuable in helping me make an informed decision. 💭

Yeah this is a scam for sure
That is a scam. It’s an outdated amount for the IHS, consultant.com is not their email domain, that’s a ridiculously high salary for general admin work and UK Salaries are typically promoted on an annual payment basis not monthly, any company able to sponsor visas can pay for a proper email system…
There are more red flags than a May Day parade.
100% scam
No way a company will require a foreigner for an admin assistant role that they can’t find someone to do locally. Salary also seems too high.
Just look at it this way – Why would a government email contact for visa in the UK be .com and not co.uk ?
Obviously a scam, and not a very good one
Scam! The line:
“immigration healthcare surcharge (IHS) amounting to £400 Pounds which must be paid by Employee in addition to a visa application fee before approval of Employee VISA.”
Tells you all you need to know I think. You have to pay them money upfront to get the job? Once they get your money they go silent, or they need some more money to do solve some extra “problems” that suddenly emerge.
Op, run! It is a scam for sure. Best case scenario they are only going to steal your info and make you send them some “fee” for visa or whatever.
Worst case scenario, you could be the next human trafficking victim. Although, as far as I know, they dont operate like that, so I hardly doubt this the case.
Anyway, the fact that you SIGNED something and shared any personal info is BAD. Like really, really, really bad. The amount of things they can do and access with your sensitive info and your signature….
Contact the police fast and ask for orientation of how to proceed.
And let that be a lesson: when the money is too easy, don’t believe in it. They take advantage of people who are so eager to make an easy money that they don’t even stop to think about the stupidity of what they are doing.
Do you even know how hard is for companies to hire someone from another country? In order to sponsor your visa they would need to proof for the government that you have such an unique resume that they couldn’t find a single person in the UK to do the job. C’mon, op. It is for administrative assistant. Do you really think is it worth for them to bring someone from another country?
Put your braincells to work. If you research of what it takes for a company to hire someone foreign you will see it makes no sense. Not for that position.
I am sorry If I’m being rude, but I’m scared as hell for you and the info you shared. Don’t ever let people fool you like that again.
I don’t want you to became the kind of person in the future you will accept a model job or an au pair job in another country and end up trafficked because you believe everything too easy.
Hardly anyone in the UK 🇬🇧 is on that amount per month lol 😆
