Hey there! So, I have a bit of a dilemma and I need your input. I’m currently working as an HR generalist at a small company, wearing multiple hats and making 78k a year. I’ve created a great working culture and I genuinely love what I do.
However, a recruiter recently approached me with an offer of 90k for a different HR role. The catch? The new job is further away from home and grad school, adding an extra hour or so to my daily commute.
So, here’s my question for you – is it worth trading that extra commute time for a $12k raise in salary? Let me know your thoughts! ðŸ’💼 #DecisionsDecisions #CareerGrowth #WorkLifeBalance
You could always present the offer to your current employer and ask them to match the pay, worse case scenario they say no.
There is absolutely no way I’d trade that much autonomy and a 25 minute commute for less autonomy, a significantly longer commute, and a $12,000 pay increase. That’s less than $1,000 in extra pretax income per paycheck if you’re paid biweekly.
12K isn’t worth it to me. You’re currently going to school and have your own set of flexibility.
You’re also adding an extra 30 mins and 60 mins to your commute times. Idk about you but where i live depending on time and day with traffic and timing you can easily add more time to that.
Finish school, evaluate your options then, this seems like taking more on your plate.
Reach back to the job characteristics model. Autonomy is the number one (or very close to) the reason why people stay at jobs and feel fulfilled. If you think the extra 1000 a month is worth giving up autonomy and a longer commute, go for it. Personally I wouldn’t unless there was rom for advancement thru the ranks in the new company and that 90k a year has the potential to turn into 140k per year.
Hold up. You are using the company credit card to buy employees food?
