🤔 Ever find yourself doing job interviews while already working a temporary position? It can feel tricky navigating the job hunt while still being employed. Let’s discuss:
💼 Should you feel guilty for taking job interviews during work hours?
💼 Is it necessary to inform your current employer about your job search?
💼 Are you wrong for wanting a more permanent job rather than a temporary position?
Here are a few possible solutions to consider:
➡️ Schedule interviews before or after work hours.
➡️ Use personal days or vacation time for interviews.
➡️ Have a conversation with your employer about your career goals.
Remember, looking out for your long-term career growth is important. It’s okay to seek out permanent opportunities that align with your goals. Share your thoughts and experiences below! 💬👔 #CareerAdvice #WorkLifeBalance
As a manager I wouldn’t care, doubly so if it is known you are a temp or contract position. Folks gotta eat.
That said, counting them as your lunch break is the way to go. Don’t obviously steal company time or resources and there shouldn’t be much complaint.
Also, only tell your current manager if you have a good rapport and then it is along the lines of “he, this is a temp position, I need full time, what can we make happen?” I’d be honest and write you a review on LinkedIn and recommend you if you were good.
It’s a business. You work they pay. Nothing more.
do your interviews on the clock homie
Nah. Do not feel guilty about interviewing with another company. When I worked in office, I’d book a meeting room for interview.
What would the purpose of informing your employer of that be exactly? I am sure that they anticipate that you won’t just sit there with no backup plan once your contract ends.
Side note – if you like this role, there is absolutely no harm in asking if there is any possibility the contract can be extended into a full-time position. It is probably unlikely due to budget constraints, but if you already are trained, working and meeting or exceeding metrics, it’s worth a shot. I’m still new in the field but have seen two colleagues of mine get offered full-time positions from contract work because they asked.
Your asking if you should snitch/ Self-Sabotage yourself, the choice is yours -……… –
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever tell your employer that you are applying for other jobs. Doesn’t matter if you are temporary or not. Don’t tell them. Keep that shit to yourself.
