#MinimumWage #IncomeInequality #Jobs #LivingWage
Hey everyone! 👋 So, I’ve been thinking a lot about the minimum wage lately and whether or not it should be illegal for jobs that don’t pay enough in the U.S. I mean, I’m currently working full time at a gas station, and let me tell you, it’s tough out here.
Here are some thoughts on the matter:
– Making less than $14 an hour is just not cutting it in my opinion. 💸
– It’s challenging to save money or even think about getting my own place on this salary. 🏠
– Ideally, I would love to find a job that pays $18-20 minimum. Anything less just feels like chump change, especially where I live in Florida.
Do you think it should be illegal for jobs to pay below a certain wage? What are your thoughts on this issue? Personally, I believe that everyone deserves to earn a living wage. Maybe implementing a higher minimum wage or wage scales based on cost of living could be the solution. What do you think? Let’s discuss! 🤔💭
It’s illegal to impact billionaires negatively just so you can pay your bills.
I’d propose a federal mandate that makes the minimum wage set county-by-county where working full-time would equate to three times the average or median rent in the region — given that almost every apartment complex requires you make three times the rent to qualify. That would set minimum wage to where I am to about $27 per hour vs the current $12.50ish.
Raising the minimum wage doesn’t really help, Just ask California how they’re doing.
Look into the local union halls. Getting into the trades you can make a living wage and work while you learn.
god bless ‘Merica 🙁
How about learn a skill and your employment is instantly more valuable.
My employer started a policy this year, anyone working here on contract (not hourly) has to make, at minimum, what’s considered a living wage in the city we’re in (which ain’t cheap). Thanks union!
Crappy gas station jobs were never meant to be a career. Same with crappy fast food jobs. Why would anyone think they deserve a living wage doing unskilled work that you could train a monkey to do?
Cincinnati OH is one of the most affordable cities to live in the US and it takes almost $21/hr to afford a 2 bedroom apartment.
Have you considered doing construction?
Not sure most people on here understand how basic economics works. Pay hike equal price hike. Do you think the vendors are going to absorb the loss themselves? Just like tariffs. Add a tax on imported goods and the price goes up.
I need to make $800 a week for rent to be HALF of my income. That’s before utilities. I have a 1600 sq ft 1br that I share with my kid. It’s so depressing that I work my ass off just for necessities. Minimum wage in my state is $12.
Did you even once consider the shareholders?
Minimum wage if it would have kept up with cost of living would be $26 a hour. Why we put up with this not being the case IDK.
It is illegal. Thing is, we haven’t updated what “enough” is since 2009.
This is literally what minimum wage is supposed to be.
These issues need tackled on a state level. Income and cost of living vary too much from one state to another.
