Hey everyone! 👋 I wanted to share a situation I recently experienced during my visits with a neurologist for migraines. The nurse who assisted me seemed to cross a boundary by calling me on my personal phone to inquire about job opportunities for her daughter. I found this to be both unethical and uncomfortable, and I’m wondering what steps I can take to address this issue.
Some thoughts and possible solutions:
* Is it legal for a healthcare professional to use my personal information to contact me about unrelated matters?
* Should I file a complaint to address this situation?
* How can I ensure my privacy and boundaries are respected in future interactions with healthcare providers?
* Consider reporting the incident to HIPAA or your state’s Board of Nursing if you feel your rights have been violated.
I hope my experience sparks a valuable discussion and helps others navigate similar situations. Let’s support each other in upholding patient rights and professional boundaries! 💪 #PatientAdvocacy
>What can I do?
Tell the practice manager what’s happened.
This is a breech of HIPAA and you need to talk to her practicing manager NOW
Immediately report the nurse’s behavior to the employer and to the nurse licensing board in your state. If the neurologist’s office is part of a hospital system, contact their HR department & file a complaint. There should be someplace on their website to file a complaint.
At a bare minimum, she needs retraining on professional conduct & a warning about her inappropriate behavior.
It’s very concerning (and potentially dangerous) that the nurse couldn’t focus on the health related aspect of her job. We all love our kids, but this is absolutely unacceptable.
So many ethical violations…
Healthcare worker, this is a big NO NO. Report her to the nursing board, let her work know as well (highest manager). I know it will take you some time but this is unacceptable.
We take SOOOO much training on how to handle patient’s private information and HIPAA, ANNUALLY! She knows better. Don’t just let her work know, the board needs to be aware as well to make sure this is correctly handled for future patients. We are never to let personal interest cross with work, or to ever take personal info from a chart. EVER. Unless you gave her your number and said it was ok. Even then, I probably wouldn’t because you’re a patient.
Unethical and creepy!
This was a nurse or an MA? Sounds like she is an MA.
i would also recommend discussing this with the neurologist that she works for . Totally unacceptable
