Hey everyone! 👋 I recently ran into a tricky situation and could really use some advice. So, I quit my job at a small gymnastics business and received my final paycheck along with a second check a week later. I deposited both, but my former boss ended up revoking both checks without any explanation or warning, leaving me with $50 in charges from my bank. 😰
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Do you know if it’s legal for my boss to revoke the checks like that without any communication? And most importantly, what should I do now to resolve this issue?
Possible solution:
– Talk to your former boss and ask for an explanation
– Reach out to your bank to see if they can waive the fees
– Consider seeking legal advice if necessary
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. #HelpNeeded #LegalAdvice
Message a local employment lawyer. They like easy cases.
Go to your state’s Department of Labor. They’ll take care of it, no personal lawyer necessary.
Department of Labor – designated ny let them get away with that crap
Op: you’ve gotten some surprisingly bad advice here. You don’t need a lawyer. There’s two steps to resolving this:
1. Call your boss. Tell them what happened and ask them to correct it. Give them a timeframe that you expect the correction within (I recommend two business days)
1. If they don’t fix it within the time frame, or refuse to talk/work with you then report them to the department of labor. The dol will investigate and get you your money. If they determine that it was intentional wage theft they will likely require that you be paid back at 2x or 3x the amount.
