Hey all! So I’m dealing with the worst sinus infection right now and my job won’t accept doctor’s notes from urgent care. Is that even legal?! 🤔 Here’s the deal:
– Have any of you faced a similar situation with your job not accepting urgent care doctor’s notes?
– Do you think it’s fair for companies to exclude certain types of doctors’ notes?
– How can I handle this situation without a primary care doctor to provide a note?
Possible Solution:
– One option could be to try and find a walk-in clinic or a different urgent care facility that your employer might accept notes from.
– Another solution could be to try to schedule a quick telemedicine appointment with a primary care doctor or a different healthcare provider to get the necessary note.
What are your thoughts? Any advice or past experiences to share? Let’s help each other out! 🙌
They don’t have to take any doctor notes. They don’t have to excuse people for being sick. Sounds like a bad system they have (to me) but not an illegal one, not in Iowa.
If you can get medical certification for FMLA (click [here](https://webapps.dol.gov/elaws/whd/fmla/6i.aspx#:~:text=Employees%20are%20eligible%20for%20FMLA,at%20the%20site%20or%20within) to see if you are eligible), they have to stop assigning points and have to reverse points already assigned for this FMLA-covered reason. They can still require medical clearance for you to return, but they have to accept providers on [this list](https://webapps.dol.gov/elaws/whd/fmla/3.aspx?Glossary_Word=PROVIDER).
That’s fucked. What if that’s your only option? Are you insured through work? If you are using insurance by way of your job to seek treatment they need to get their head out of their ass and just accept your absence with whatever documentation you’ve gotten. I’m sorry but that’s bullshit and no one should be afraid to lose their job over something like that.
Many areas of the country have primary care provider shortages. If I suspected a sinus infection, my PCP couldn’t see me for 2 weeks, and that’s IF you are an established patient (the wait for new patients is literally months!). Urgent Care is, without any exaggeration, the only option. If my employer doesn’t accept Urgent Care documentation, they can get fucked.
Legally they have to. They can not fire people for going to the er if in states it’s illegal as there are rules against it. I get my dr notes digitally now as kaiser hands them out like candy now. Say for example “no drinks allowed” bs I can get a dr note allowing it. If they take it away I can sue legally.
Grocery stores it usually doesn’t matter if you have a doctors note or not. If you are not actively hospitalized in critical condition, then you must work. If your sick, that’s fine, as long as you show up to work. If you call-off, it’s an absence and you’re getting a point for it.
How would they know the difference between an urgent care doctor and a doctor doctor? They are the same.
