Lesson Learned
It’s not safe to assume you have a new job until you actually start working. Here’s a cautionary tale about a job offer that disappeared at the last minute.
The Interview Process
- Video interview with hiring manager at large retail company
- Received job offer for 12-month contract with great hourly rate and benefits
The Rollercoaster
- Quit current job after signing offer letter and completing onboarding paperwork
- Start date pushed back due to onboarding process
- Company unable to keep me on the project due to budget changes
Key Takeaways
- Don’t stop applying and interviewing until you’ve actually started your new job
- Verbal offer, signed offer letter, and start date locked in – not guaranteed until you’re paid
Remember, job security can be unpredictable – stay alert and proactive in your job search!
Contact an employment lawyer and sue the company.
Please seek legal counsel. You did everything right and now you are without a job!
Name and Shame.
They fucked you over and they will def fuck someone else
They need to be named and shamed
This is the new norm unfortunately
Name them.
Name and shame please
It might qualify as “promissory estoppel” talk to an employment lawyer to see if you can sue.
Always good to remember nothing’s set in stone until you’re actually there punching the clock. Job hunts can be a rollercoaster, but hey, at least now you know, right? Hang in there, something even better might be waiting around the corner!
“due to budget constraints”. sooner than later, companies will enter this phase. its not the time to leave for “greener pastures”. there are none atm
Take 2 weeks off your old job as you onboard your new job. If all goes well after 2 weeks, just leave your old job without notice. One might argue that you burn bridges this way but everyone for themselves. Companies don’t care about burning bridges with they lay off 10000 workers.
