Check the unlimited data plan, see if tethering is unlimited too – if so, definitely go for it. No question, there.
If it isn’t. Well it’s probably still a good idea, you’ll just have to be frugal with your usage when tethering to a PC. But it’s definitely a good expense to do without, whilst clearing debt.
There should also be cheaper price plans
I say go for it, don’t forget to think of any IoT devices you have that need constant internet connectivity such as door bells, alarms, cameras, etc.
If you can’t completely get rid of your home internet at the very least downgrade and switch providers.
There’s no reason for anyone outside of the most remote and heaviest of users to be paying more than $50 a month right now.
How do you have so much debt with 3 jobs? Best of luck
It sounds like you can get by without it. Worst thing…after two months you have to sign up for internet again, and you saved $200.
When you go to cancel, do it in person if possible, heck, maybe they offer you a killer deal for like $30/month.
Keep your Modem and Router, so when its time to sign up again you don’t need to have “installation”
I would absolutely do it. I used to hotspot off my phone all the time and stream shows and everything like that kills your battery life for sure but it’s really not that big of a deal
Since you use your phone at home 70% of the time and you have an unlimited plan it would be a good idea to cut the $100 one. If you don’t want to move the desktop to the office, and you have good internet speed, you can always buy a wifi adapter (if you don’t already have one) and use the hotspot function on your phone to connect the desktop to the internet (tethering). Best wishes!
Hi there, I’d run a calculation first to see whether paying an extra $100 per month toward your debt will make a significant dent on paying it off earlier. If paying an extra $100 per month gets your debt payoff date anywhere near a year closer to your payoff date, then I’d consider it. If it’s less than a year, then I’d consider other alternatives. Maybe you can ask your service provider for a discount or switch to a slower plan. I’m sure you own your own modem and router, but doing this instead of renting from your service provider can save some significant $ on your monthly payment.
Check out this loan payment calculator here to see what an extra $100 per month will do: https://www.calculator.net/payment-calculator.html#
Are you able to put it on vacation mode for a month and see how it goes? Your rate will be cheaper that month and you also won’t be able to access the Internet and then you can treat that month as a test run of sorts and see if it works for you.
That way, if it turns out to be too inconvenient, your internet comes back on after the month and d you don’t have to pay reconnect fee (if your provider has those)
The other thing is remember your library and coffee shops have free internet so you can download or browse there.
Check into the details of the cell plan – sometimes the data is “unlimited” but they cut the speeds after a certain threshold is reached.
If nothing else, give your provider a call and ask them what the procedure is for returning their equipment, as you are currently shopping new plans with competitors. They’ll probably “discover” you’re eligible for a loyal customer discount and cut your bill down a little bit lol
You might shop around first and see. A lot of companies have new customer deals so if you switch you may get a discounted rate for a year or however long. You can also try calling and telling them you have to cancel due to price and if they’re like my provider they have a whole procedure where if you’re consistent with saying you’ll cancel you’ll wind up with a deal before you get off the phone. I’m about to have to do that again.
Internet is a necessity at this point. I would rather give up other things than internet.
Every library system is different, but you should check with your local library. Mine rent out hot spots that check out for 3 weeks and I rotate between a couple branches to make sure I always have one. I got rid of home WiFi 2 months ago and haven’t looked back.
“Unlimited” phone may be slowed down above a certain usage, say 20 or 50GB. I typically use 200GB home internet a month, one person. You should be able to log into you home internet account and see how much you actually use.
Hack your neighbor’s WiFi…just kidding although I’m surprised we don’t go in with our neighbors more for WiFi. I don’t do anything with it 90% of the time so would be fine with someone else using it.
You are paying way too much. I have 2 residences, one in NYC. I pay $44 and $33 for internet. This is after I called and negotiated. Even basic internet is fast enough so don’t get upsold faster download speeds. Also try and negotiate all your monthly bills, you will be amazed what companies will lower there price to just to keep you.
most ISPs offer a bare bones plan that should cost far less than what you are playing.
Bills like the Internet are utilities not debt. But, you could cut it if you don’t work from home and just figure yourself out. Also, you should not be paying so much for Internet monthly
Phone Internet is not equal to house internet. Find a cheaper provider
Cut it for a few months and see if it impacts you. Can always restart if necessary
Switch to visible or mint mobile. If you get their service. Visible gives me real hotspot unlimited data with the only condition that it’s at 5mbs. It’s also only 25 bucks 🤷🏻♂️ #notsponsored
with cellular and ability to use it as a hotspot (if part of your plan), there’s little reason to pay for a dedicated connection with your level of consumption/need.
You can get a 300mbps internet plan for $30/minth
You can try and negotiate with your company, especially if it’s been increasing. My partner has had some success with this.
Don’t even look around for cheaper internet. You answered your own question.
Dude, phone internet ain’t the same as what you get at home. Time to hunt down a cheaper provider.
