#WorkplaceStruggles #StoodUpForMyself #SupportNeeded
Hey everyone,
I’ve been going through a tough time at work lately and I could really use some advice or just some empathy. I recently submitted an ADA request for more flexibility in remote work due to a chronic illness, and things got really messy.
Here’s the situation:
– After something bad happened as a result of my request, I ended up breaking down in tears of embarrassment.
– Ever since then, my boss has seemed to hate me. They’re being passive-aggressive and overly critical of my work.
– I’ve also stood up for myself on other issues, like being overworked and working out of my title as a unionized employee, which seems to have made things worse.
I’m actively looking for a new job, but in the meantime, I could really use some support. Has anyone else been through something similar? How did you cope with a boss who seems to suddenly dislike you?
Some possible solutions could include:
– Documenting all interactions with your boss
– Seeking support from HR or a trusted colleague
– Scheduling a meeting with your boss to address the tension
I appreciate any advice or shared experiences you all may have. Thank you for listening. 💬🌟 #WorkplaceSupport #StandStrong #YouAreNotAlone
YHour boss is an asshole. Do NOT trust HR. Get to know your union reps. Talk to your coworkers on break time to find out how many others have had trouble with these issues, with this particular manager, or with retaliation in general.
I’m so sorry, OP.
I think these companies need to have a modern mindset. I am a current hybrid but former full time remote employee. I do work much better at home vs the office for various reasons. The CEOs of these companies don’t understand the days of needing to be in office are over (not all positions obviously). But if you can do remote work in your position, I don’t see a problem with it.
I have debilitating IBS D & got “laid off” as a consultant for the state as I was in the middle of filing for accommodations. The moment they realized I was asking for accommodations they found a bullshit way to fire me. As soon as my boomer boss got wind of that the workplace bullying ramped up tremendously. They went out of their way to push me out of the office & then by taking away my telework randomly, even though it was a part of my contract when I was hired. So many employeers are ignorant, arrogant assholes who enjoy the pettiness & cruelty. Especially of your a woman with any kind of chronic illness/health issues. They hate you for it & will.make you miserable. It’s a shame that this is so commonplace but it is.
I know this probably isn’t the answer you are looking for but you need to start getting your ducks in a row to find a new job. Best of luck!
As a former HR Mouthpiece, be VERY careful about confiding in HR. What is your boss’s relationship with the company/leadership? How has the organization treated other disabled employees? Do you know of anyone else who has sought an accommodation? Was it granted? How are they treated?
Your best bet is more than likely to speak to your local disability advocate about what services may be able to help you. Companies are evil, capital generating machines only and HR is only there to help them generate capital without being sued. And sometimes we can’t even do that properly without getting blindsided by insane leadership.
When the union treats you the same as a corpo there really is no winning when it comes to
Money and power
This is one of those things people rarely talk about when they get all pumped up about “standing up for yourself.” The reality is in MOST cases your boss and whoever your boss likes has more power than you so you’re better off just leaving the company completely.
Does your place have a Human Resources Department? Anyone else there that you can confide in? It can help to know you’re not alone in this.
Document everything. Even if it’s just notes on your phone. Dates, times and every encounter or incident.
You’re in a union job. File a grievance for retaliation. Why move when you can use the union to make things better?
