#JobFired #CareerAdvice #FirstJob
Hey everyone, just got fired from my new job after only 1 month for being “overly eager.” Has this ever happened to you? I could really use some advice and support right now. Here’s a quick rundown of what went down:
– Started a new recruiting job in June with a staffing agency, took a salary cut for commission opportunity
– Got pulled into a meeting called a “30-Day Review” and was basically told I wasn’t a good fit for the job
– Was accused of going behind their backs on a couple of occasions, apologized and admitted fault
– Main feedback was that I was “too eager” and didn’t give them room to teach me the ropes
Here’s my take on it and what I plan to do next:
– Take responsibility for jumping into the work too fast and not following directions effectively
– Disappointed that I never received this feedback before being let go
– Understand that this job wasn’t meant to be and will be back on the job hunt starting tomorrow 📝
– Looking for a role that will be a better fit and where I can thrive
So, what are your thoughts? Any similar experiences or advice on moving forward? Let’s chat and help each other out! 🤝
I mean it’s actually good to get feedback in a month. You can’t expect weekly feedback. In the first month just do what the manager says to the tee. Do not be creative
The funny part is some companies out there would be like, “That was awesome! We love how eager you are to jump right in!” Learn the lesson a move forward. That’s really all you can do. It’s amazing how different company cultures are.
I’ve had to do a bit of personal reset at my current company as I’ve been told a few times by my boss that I need to calm down and slow down because I came from a company where you were flat out for 50 hours a week and if you stopped to take a breath, you’d possibly be paying for it the rest of the month. And my new one, client work is about 20 hours on a regular week and the rest of the time I’m only as busy as I make myself be on internal improvement projects. It’s been a big adjustment.
Just do what they tell you to do. You should not be too eager
“…because I could make a good commission on top of the base salary.”
They offer you commission, i.e. a reward for getting results, but when you show “too much eagerness” they fire you?
That’s absolutely dysfunctional, and dishonest. OP, you are better off somewhere else.
