#CareerAdvice #SoftwareEngineer #JobSearch
Hey everyone,
I know this subreddit has probably seen its fair share of posts like mine, but I could really use some guidance right now.
After a year of searching for a software engineer role, I’m starting to feel like maybe this isn’t the career path for me. From battling with alcoholism, relocating, completing a bootcamp, and sending out over 1,500 job applications, I’m feeling exhausted and defeated. 😔
I’ve been putting in the work – grinding leetcode, building personal projects, networking on LinkedIn, and applying non-stop. I’ve even managed to secure some rare interviews, but they’re few and far between.
The thought of moving back home due to financial constraints is disheartening, and I’m at a loss for what to do next. 😓
If anyone has any advice, leads, or honest thoughts to share, I’d be grateful. It’s tough out here, but maybe together we can find a way forward. 🚀
Solutions:
– Consider reaching out to tech recruiters or job placement agencies for additional assistance.
– Explore freelance or contract opportunities to gain experience and build your network.
– Don’t hesitate to seek mentorship or support from others in the industry.
Hang in there, you’re not alone! 💪🏼
Congratulations on 5-years of sobriety! I’m a tech newbie so I can’t really relate but being able to have supportive parents during this economic downturn is an advantage not afforded to everyone so keep your head up.
I’m sure others will likely ask for a redacted resume to provide feedback.
Honestly my understanding is bootcamp grads are basically unhireable I think you will need a degree but honestly the future is not looking good to me anymore and I’m leaning more towards pursue something else or try to get into general IT (also a dumpster fire).
I gave up on trying to become a software developer to become an IT guy instead. It’s not so bad, you might consider giving it a try if you keep getting bounced. You’re getting interviews though, that’s much better than many. You may want to just keep playing that numbers game brutal as it is. Until then deliver pizzas or do whatever to keep food on the table while you chase your first job.
Hey buddy keep busting your ass because your 5 years being sober is even harder than finding a job, we are proud of you and you’re gonna get your bag. Bet on yourself
