#LaidOff #JobInsecurity #HRMeeting
So I just got a meeting invite titled “Touch Base” with HR and my department head for Wednesday morning. No context given. And I’m currently on vacation, so I won’t be in tomorrow. 😬
I’ve been feeling like the axe is about to fall with the low volume of work lately, even though I was just gearing up for a new project. It’s tough to swallow, but it seems like a layoff might be on the horizon.
What can I do to prepare myself before it happens? Here are some possible solutions that might help:
– Update your resume and LinkedIn profile to showcase your skills and experiences.
– Network with colleagues and industry contacts to explore potential job opportunities.
– Start budgeting and saving money in case you are without a job for a period of time.
– Consider seeking guidance from a career coach or mentor for support during this challenging time.
Remember, you’re not alone in this situation. Stay positive and proactive in taking steps to navigate through potential layoffs. We’ve got your back! 💪🏼 #StayStrong #JobSearch #CareerAdvice
* Make sure you have all your logins for any benefits (retirement, healthcare). Update the logins for those accounts to use your personal email.
* Download paystubs. They’re useful for proving employment.
* Delete any personal logins you have on your work machine, as well as any personal documents like tax returns.
* If you have any benefits like a health stipend spend/submit it now. Sometimes they pay it out as part of severance, sometimes they don’t.
Yeah bro you’re cooked they might actually try to get reimbursed for the days you were low volume.
Don’t sign your severance agreement or any other paperwork right away. Speak to an employment lawyer and have them go over the paperwork first.
I don’t worry about stuff outside my control
think: is there ANYTHING you can do right now to influence the outcome in ANY WAY? the answer is no
so, I don’t even think about it and just go about my day, whatever happens… will happen
prepare your resume, start looking, and emotionally accept it. Really all you can do.
