I think that companies, and people are thinking of a 0 or 1 future related to AI, either a field will be 100% AI, or not AI at all. But rather AI should always be a tool with human oversight. It can increase efficiency of a person, but should never be run without oversight.
For example for therapy, regulations should ban 100% AI chatbots. Rather a mix of psychiatrist and AI, handling it. Like a 60-40, 50-50 mix etc. Have some discussions with your psychiatrist, that psychiatrist will add parameters to your profile, and the AI model will chat with you for self-talk. The psychiatrist can also add their notes to the AI, to be referred later, which a person can opt out on a per session basis.
As the technology progresses, AI models will move to personal computers and specialty chips on mobile phones. Unless you consider the current state of electronics to be a “corporate dystopian society”, then nothing really changes.

listening to a 7 year old have a convo with chatgpt-o is pretty interesting. Its hard for very young children to understand they are not talking to a real person at first. In the future it could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you setup the AI to teach. Bad actors are going to use this to brainwash.
Using a chat bot is no worse than using a self-help book. It’s not a replacement for a therapist, or for human interaction, but it can still be useful. And a key tool in many kinds of therapy is “self-talk”, where the patient uses therapy techniques in their own head to help them manage whatever problem they have.
A chatbot can never be as flexible as a human therapist, but it can do things that are helpful. For example, when someone is having an anxiety attack, they struggle to remember how to control anxiety, so having a bot that reminds them they need to breathe deeply and so on is very useful. It can also pipe up to say “Hey, how did today go? Any problems” and make a record of whether it was good or bad, which a lot of patients struggle to do by themselves.
There are also a decent number of people (not vast, but they do exist) who struggle to work with human therapists fullstop, because they have issues with trust, and some people with personality disorders will just outright lie to therapists. A chatbot can feel less judgemental and you are never wasting time with a bot, only your own time.
The idea of chatbots being used as follow up care to check up on patients, make sure they take thier meds, reinforce that they are doing good, etc is a pretty good idea all told. There are obvious problems with cloud based solutions and privacy, and you obviously need a very seriously tested bot that is trained for medical use, but we shouldn’t fear this sort of use.
We should however fear the idea of chatbots being used as an alternative to critical care from professionals. They are great for routine admin, signposting and repeating important messages, but they are terrible at being an actual therapist.
We are already in the corporate dystopia.
