I’ve talked to a couple of manufacturers in this space locally and one in particular got his start similar to a situation like this, but he was the grower.
He told me he didn’t like to white label stuff very much and wanted to promote his brand. He does very well with wholesale he told me, and sells both online and a small storefront where he manufactures. He did tell me merchant services for the site was limited to Square. He also controls everything from seed to product too, including bottle and label.
Another makes a huge variety of products like edibles, topicals, and tinctures but has done well as a white label service so others could grow their brand, but had recently launched theirs. They purchase from a grower and have a larger operation where they manufacture product than the first customer.
As for pricing, never go lower than inferior product. See what the market will support, talk to shop owners which products move and see which would be a good fit for you too, then figure out a way to set yours apart, especially if you can say organic and have a seal. Just act like a customer, then maybe go back later and try to sell product.
Set your ecommerce website pricing up as a percentage up from what wholesale is, then offer a private discount code to stores that want to buy your product wholesale and eliminate your old middle man.
The last tidbit I’ve picked up is to not use the word hemp in your branding. “Wellness” or something like that will help you slip by social media and give your brand a better clientele. Simple, bold colors for your logo and branding. Use fonts and design language like a fancy cosmetic company for inspiration too. Not a cannabis leaf in sight.
