Hey everyone, so here’s the scoop. I was laid off a couple of months ago and after a rollercoaster of job applications and interviews, I finally landed a new gig. The only problem? It pays $20k less than my previous job. But then, out of the blue, I get another offer for a position that not only matches my old salary but could potentially be $30k higher with some negotiation magic.
Now, I know it’s all about the money, but burning bridges and hurting someone’s feelings is not really my style. Should I stick with my current job or go for the bigger paycheck? Tough decisions, right?
Let me know what you think in the comments! Would you prioritize money or loyalty in this situation? #Decisions #MoneyVsLoyalty #HelpMeOut 🤔💸
Do what is best for you as companies always do what is best for them and they don’t care how loyal you have been to them.
As awkward as it might be, I would accept Company B, and advise Company A that you will unfortunately be accepting an offer elsewhere, and apologize for the timing.
Don’t be sorry or feel bad – companies do this to us all the time and don’t care. Take whichever ones had the best compensation and culture. Don’t take company C because they ghosted you, and that’s a huge red flag they don’t care about your time, etc.
Also, if you haven’t already, compare benefits between company an and b. Sometimes the salary is higher but they only pay 50% of health insurance while the other one might pay 100%. Things like that add up quick. It does sound like B is the way to go based on salary alone.
And hopefully you can start at company b before you have tell A that you went elsewhere. I only say this because there have been so many stories about companies rescinding offers after people already turned others down and/or quit their current job. Just be aware and be careful. 🙂
Good luck!
Take it. They wouldn’t hesitate to fire you in a heartbeat, so fuck ’em. They want loyalty, then buy a dog.
Why would you feel terrible? They wouldn’t feel terrible laying you off.
You lost me at 7th round
If they wanted to keep you then they should’ve accepted your negotiated salary that equaled your previous role.
Companies will always choose profits over loyalty so why shouldn’t you
Try conveying this your manager. Ask if they can match the offer. If they can’t hand in your resignation. No need to feel bad. Everyone works to make money and a living. If company B can give you what you need you have nothing to feel guilty about. If company A really values you and considers you indispensable they’ll figure out a way to match it.
Get that nut son
Follow the money bro.
If you really like working for company A, tell them you were given a better offer and ask if they’re willing to match what they’re offering. If not, you’re better off going with the company paying you more.
You act with integrity and do the right thing. They have already made business decisions based on your acceptance. Would be unprofessional and burn a bridge. Your reputation is worth more than $20k
# Take the 20/30k. Cash is king and my best wishes to you for your new job!
20k-30k is huge. Absolutely go with Company B. Lets Company A know they’re underpaying.
Take the job that benefits you.
Burn the bridge and don’t think twice
It’s business, worry about yourself 10/10 times.
new company has no loyalty to you so why should you? do your job as best as you can and if you get another job take it. it is about you because the company will choose the company first.
Take it
Take the better job and leave the other one off your resume.
I was in this exact situation about a year ago. My start date for company A was one week away & they had already bought my MacBook, Corporate phone, etc. (smaller company).
Company B offered me over 100k more including equity & better insurance, so the decision was obvious, but I was definitely morally conflicted and struggled to make that decision, especially because the hiring manager at company A was beyond amazing.
Anyways, I figured if the hiring manager was in my shoes, they’d probably make the same decision I did; take the offer that pays more.
You weren’t there long enough for them to miss you. Jump ship. You were unemployed for 2 months, and something was better than unemployment. Don’t feel bad, it’s not personal, it’s just business. Just how things are now. Do what’s best for you financially.
