Hey everyone! 👋 I could use some advice here. So, I’ve been dealing with migraine attacks and have had to take a few sick days because of it. Now, my workplace is hinting at putting me on a sickness absence plan if I have to take more time off. 😬
Do you think I should tell my employer about my ongoing migraines before it reaches that point? And if I do, what kind of support or adjustments could they make for me as someone working in an accounting firm?
Here’s what I’m thinking:
– Maybe discussing some flexibility in my work schedule when possible 🔄
– Providing a quiet space for me to rest if needed 🤫
– Offering resources for managing stress or triggers in the workplace 🧘♂️
I’d appreciate your thoughts and any suggestions you might have! Thank you in advance! 🙏
Migraine sufferer here, I have a prescription from the doctor for mine and if I take these meds I can’t drive with them.
I started taking them in my first year of working at a company and like you I was off 4 times so it became a concern but when I was able to prove I get migraines and we have a online chemist on call system for any prescriptions so when I entered mine it confirm the none-driving rule. Since then it is understood if I have a migraine I have to take these meds and I won’t be able to work, never been brought up again
Suggest if you haven’t already you go see your doctor and you might be able to get some ‘evidence’ that this is something you suffer from regularly and your not taking the mick
If you are on the brink of being disciplined due to excessive absences caused by a chronic illness, it would make sense to loop your employer in. You’re likely entitled to protection under the Health and Safety at Work Act or the Equality Act. They will potentially send you for an Occupational Health Assessment (I believe you can request they do).
