#LinkedInDilemma: Who should I showcase – the startup or the incubating company?
So, here’s the scoop: I’m part of a super cool startup within a bigger company (let’s call it Company A). While my paycheck comes from Company A, my heart and soul are all about the startup. But when it comes to updating my LinkedIn profile, I’m torn – do I highlight the innovative work I’m doing with the startup, or do I stick with the umbrella company that signs my checks?
I need your help to decide! Cast your vote below and let me know who you think deserves the spotlight on my LinkedIn profile – the startup with all its potential, or the incubating company that pays the bills. 🚀💼 #StartupLife #CorporateReality #LinkedInProfile #CareerDilemmas
Imho, the company that is paying you is the one you work for. The startup is a sub to that company.
I would put Company A on your LinkedIn if for no other reason than brand recognition. Once the startup launches in the market then you can always update the company name
I literally had the same problem when I started my new job in march. So I just put both companies.

When you’re asked by a friend or family member, “Where do you work?” – do you give them this lengthy answer?
Put whichever one is more beneficial to you, and if there’s any concerns, explain the situation in your interviews.
I worked for a company in a similar situation, I put both. Company I worked for / parent company which is well known.
If the startup is already on the market, you can use it in LinkedIn and a CV regardless of the payer name in your paycheck.
Besides Parent-ChildStartup situation, there is plenty or simpler situation where the company is known on the market under one trade name(brand) but its legal entity name (who pays salary and taxes) is different and perhaps not that widely known.
You can literally put whatever you like on there
Obviously Company A.
* That has a brand recognition
* And your paycheck comes from Company A
