Hey everyone! 🌟 I need your help with a big decision I’m facing in my career. After 12 years in recruiting, I have the opportunity to either become a Principal Recruiter or a Director of Recruiting. 🤔 Here are some key points to consider:
– Both roles are in the same comp band and have the same level internally.
– Principal IC role focuses on mentorship and development, while Director role involves performance management and leading a team.
– Travel requirements are equal for both roles, with the Principal role requiring interaction with satellite office stakeholders.
So, what would you choose in this situation? Director of Recruiting or Principal Recruiter? 🤷♂️ I’d love to hear your thoughts and any advice you have to offer! Personally, I’m leaning towards the Director role for the opportunity to lead a team and drive people strategy. 🚀 Let’s discuss and help each other make the best decision!
Agency?
Director
Director
I’d go principal. For the same pay, there will always be more career opportunity as an IC. There are only a few director roles. It’s a lot harder to get hired into those.
Principal! If you can make close to the same amount In the role that Is close to the core functions of the job, That is the place to be. Job security, Less headaches, Easier to move companies if needed.
It really depends on you. I don’t say this as a negative, but some people need to feed their ego. And that’s fine! Some people don’t want to push their limits, and that’s also fine! The key is knowing what your strengths are and what motivates you. If climbing the corporate ladder is what keeps you motivated, then the Director job it is. It’s macro vs micro. The key is knowing where you fit in, Not where others think you should fit in.
Depends if your strengths are in people management or not.
I’m principal all the way, I get along with people very well, though struggle in managing them.
