12-14 yr old randomly assaulted my 14 month old for fun
Are you a parent who has experienced the horror of witnessing your child being assaulted by a stranger? It’s a terrifying experience that can leave you feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next. I recently found myself in this exact situation when a 12-14 year old randomly assaulted my 14-month-old son for fun. 😡
What Happened?
I was holding my son at the library while he played with a puzzle when this kid who kept looking at us and talking about how he wonders whether “the baby will cry” suddenly said “I’m going to go make that baby cry.” Then he came over and grabbed my son’s cheek. My son immediately started bawling. I was so shocked that I just left because I wanted to get my son out of there and didn’t notice until hours later that he actually broke skin. I didn’t realize he grabbed my son’s face that hard. I have pictures of his face. It was dark red all day and now what’s left are the scabs from where he broke skin. 😢
What Can You Do?
I don’t know his identity and the library doesn’t know either. They also said even if they knew, they can’t give it to me because it’s private information. We talked to a cop and he asked us if we want to press charges. Is this worth pursuing or would we be wasting our time?
Here are some practical solutions you can consider:
– Contact a lawyer for advice on how to proceed legally.
– Seek counseling for your child if he/she is traumatized by the incident.
– Engage with local authorities to increase awareness and prevent such incidents in the future.
Remember, you are not alone in facing this difficult situation. Stay strong, seek support, and take action to ensure justice for your child. 💪

Press charges for both children’s sake. This kid that did needs to learn consequences now before he does irreparable harm to others.
So sorry this happened to you!
Surely the library has security footage no?
If you find the identity, it’s actually a child protective issue for the parents.
You wouldn’t be pressing charges. You would file a police report. And, yes I absolutely would.
“Worth pursuing” is up to you. There’s no immediate benefit to you personally, but he may be deterred from hurting others in the future. Are you willing to provide information and testify in the future? (That’s what cops usually mean by “press charges.”) Most of the work is on the police department and the question is how far they’ll pursue an investigation.
Go to the police. They will retrieve footage and hopefully be able to track this POS down from there. You need justice for your baby and you should also want to stop other babies from possible future assault. Do not wait. Do the right thing.
You would not be wasting your time. Even if nothing comes from it, the police will know, and hopefully, the library will be more vigilant and call the police to report assault.
file a police report. if an assault happened, especially to your child, you would want a paper trail.
Press charges!!! Please do, don’t let them get away!
Go after him especially if he broke skin
