Is anybody else getting severely depressed from not finding employment? 😞 It can be incredibly disheartening and frustrating to be in a situation where you are actively seeking employment but facing constant rejection or lack of suitable opportunities. If you can relate to this struggle, you’re definitely not alone. Many individuals are facing similar challenges in their job search journey, especially in competitive industries like IT.
Here are some tips and strategies to help you navigate through this tough period and hopefully land the job that you deserve:
##Understanding Your Situation
It’s important to take a step back and assess your current situation before diving into your job search. Consider the following:
###Evaluate Your Skills and Experience
Take stock of your skills and experience to determine where you stand in the job market. Are there any gaps in your knowledge or qualifications that you need to address? Consider taking online courses or certifications to enhance your skills.
###Networking Opportunities
Networking is key in today’s job market. Reach out to former colleagues, friends, and industry professionals to seek advice, referrals, or potential job leads. Attend networking events or join online communities to expand your network.
###Location Consideration
If you’re open to relocation, consider looking for job opportunities in other cities or states where your skills might be in higher demand. Research tech hubs like North Carolina or even consider international options like India.
##Strategies for Job Search
Once you have a clear understanding of your situation, it’s time to develop a strategic approach to your job search. Here are some tactics to consider:
###Tailor Your Resume and Cover Letter
Customize your resume and cover letter for each job application to highlight the skills and experience that are most relevant to the position. Use keywords related to your target industry to improve your chances of getting noticed by applicant tracking systems.
###Utilize Online Job Platforms
Explore job search websites like Indeed, LinkedIn, or Glassdoor to browse through job listings in your desired field. Set up job alerts to receive notifications for new job postings that match your criteria.
###Build Your Online Presence
Create or update your professional profiles on LinkedIn and other social media platforms. Showcase your skills, experience, and projects to attract potential employers. Engage with industry groups and share relevant content to establish your expertise.
###Practice Interview Skills
Prepare for job interviews by practicing common interview questions and conducting mock interviews with friends or mentors. Research the company and industry trends to demonstrate your knowledge and interest during the interview.
##Coping with Rejection and Stay Motivated
Facing rejection during your job search can take a toll on your mental health and confidence. It’s essential to stay resilient and maintain a positive mindset throughout the process. Here are some tips to help you cope with rejection:
###Seek Support
Lean on friends, family, or support groups for encouragement and advice during difficult times. Talking to someone who understands your struggles can provide emotional support and motivation.
###Take Breaks and Practice Self-Care
Don’t forget to take breaks and prioritize self-care to prevent burnout. Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation, such as exercise, hobbies, or meditation. Taking care of your mental and physical well-being is crucial during stressful times.
###Set Realistic Goals
Break down your job search goals into manageable tasks and set deadlines to track your progress. Celebrate small wins along the way to stay motivated and focused on your long-term objectives.
###Stay Persistent and Flexible
Remember that finding the right job takes time and persistence. Don’t get discouraged by setbacks or rejections. Stay open to new opportunities and be willing to adapt your job search strategy as needed.
In conclusion, navigating through unemployment and job search struggles can be challenging, but with the right mindset and strategies, you can overcome obstacles and land your dream job. Stay proactive, network with others, and believe in your abilities to succeed in your career. Keep pushing forward, and don’t hesitate to seek help or guidance when needed. You got this! 🌟
Remember, your current situation doesn’t define your future potential. Keep learning, growing, and exploring opportunities that align with your goals and aspirations. Stay motivated, stay positive, and keep striving towards your dream job. Good luck on your job search journey! 🌟

I hope you’re kidding about the India thing?
It’s worth moving for a lot of reasons, one of which is that the change of scenery would do you good. Have you ever looked at Texas?
It’s over for CS grads.
I know of many CS grads pivoting into trades, healthcare, and military.
Some are even working in the retail and food service industry.
The ironic thing is a lot of the H1Bs are coming from India plus we offshore to India.
Isn’t that like half the people on this sub?
I was severely depressed when I was seeking employment.
And I’m now that I am comfortably employed… still severely depressed.
Life’s a bitch. In the adult world you either stop caring completely or are filled with crippling anxiety. You pick.
I was fired during my first week. New grad. 135k. I actually lost it because I posted some dumb shit here trashing them because they were essentially ripping off the govt with substandard work at astronomical prices.
Found a new job after 4 months making around 87k during the probation period.
You can fuck up a lot in life and make a bounce back. Germany declared war on the world twice and is somehow thriving.
Trust me, India doesn’t want you.Â
If you can handle the low standards of living, you might have a great career in India. Many American companies are looking for people essentially born and brought up Americans to manage their back office in India essentially sort of a quasi manager roles.
Usually this sort of stuff is done by Indians in US looking to move back to India but like I said there’s a huge scope lol 😂
The inexperience of this sub really shows in such threads lol

For me, a bad job with bad coworkers is more depressing than being unemployed.
you would earn 2 dollar an hour if you move to india
haha lol. go to india and you’ll realise us still has more opportunities.Â
This is a difficult situation, but keep going. This shall pass too!
If you need to take a job in other industries to support yourself that is ok but keep learning skills that are in demand and create side projects that can be demonstrated on interviews.
What experiences do you have?
I feel the shame, everyday that I work in the warehouse
But I also brought myself here so idk… like hating (former) my dev job(s)
Ultimately I want to be free, not work… but I’m poor af right now
So, im not unemployed, but im having the hardest time getting promoted/jumping ship. Boss told me to wait 1 more year, which would be 4 years for me at level 1. Could be a skills issue on my end, but id argue that ive already hit level 2 status, especially with the shit that ive done for them. For jumping ship, companies are looking for a god damn unicorn. Gotten pretty close to quite a few places, was one of the last ones standing, but would be turned down eventually.
Keep going, do what you need to do to survive. Check out Data Annotations too, i just started doing it on the side.
Yes. 9 months. The days and weeks and months blend together and I have no idea when it’ll ever get better. It’s even more depressing because I don’t love this industry and line of work anymore. But it pays so well.
Word of advice: Don’t go to India.
I have been there.
I have so much saved in investments and retirement accounts in addition to a paid off house to where I can withstand not having employment for a while.
man, what depression? it becomes PTSD. I really hate this job.
bruh im 2 years looking for a job

Everyone here is basically capable of getting into any industry that’s hiring. Nobody says that the only way you can make money is sitting at a computer or flipping burgers.
Do construction. Become an electrician, or a plumber. Heck, if you really absolutely must sit at a computer, then write software as an indie dev – but you have to be your own boss, it’s not showing up for a paycheck. You get to make your own hours, and work on whatever you want. Just make sure you work on stuff people actually can justify paying for. It helps to make multiple programs, instead of just focusing exclusively on one.
There is plenty of money to be had out there – obviously it’s currently not to be had from companies that pay you to sit on a computer, so take the hint.
i have an unrelated degree, and i get an insane amount of offers 80-100k range.
