#CCNA #HelpDeskJob #JobHuntingStruggles
Hey everyone! 👋 So, I finally got my CCNA certification a little over a month ago and I’ve been hitting the ground running trying to land a Help Desk job. But, to my surprise, I haven’t had much luck. 🤔
I’ve had my résumé reviewed by professionals, applied to various companies, and still no call backs besides that one sketchy scam offer. It’s tough out there in the job market, right?
Here are a few questions on my mind:
– What am I doing wrong with my job search?
– Should I keep my service industry job while finishing my CS degree?
– Help desk was supposed to be entry-level, but why am I struggling to land a position there?
Any tips or advice from those who have been in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated! 🙏 Let’s help each other out and navigate through this challenging job market together.
It’s been a month.
I have 16 years of IT experience, from management to engineer, focusing on network and cloud.
It’s been a year since I was employed.
Dude it took me almost a year to find a new job recently and I have ~20 years experience in IT. Keep applying. Do Not (DO NOT) quit any job you have today. Keep looking, keep applying, keep working.
I have an A+ and a Net+ and 1 year exp, getting turned down for computer tech, helldesk, desktop support, etc for over a year.
One thing that’s been bothering me lately is the number of people on this sub and the comptia sub that claim getting an A+ will get you an entry-level job in IT when that is simply outdated advice. I’m guilty of doing that too since generally speaking it did work in the past. idk, just needed to rant ig.
I have a helpdesk job for 2 years, AZ900, MS900, AZ104, AZ305, MD102 and I get rejected for the same level of helpdesk jobs in the past 4 months lol. I did get 4 interviews but after they all ghosted me.
A CCNA (and other certs) are not meant to replace experience or official training, they are really just an amplifier. Like If you have networking training / degree / experience + a CCNA… that’s more the intent.
What state are you in? Location plays a role too
Try to get internships or projects while working your CS degree. See if the school has some IT roles.
Desktop Support roles are going to mid career guys with 15 yrs experience that got laid off.
This is about as bad as it gets in IT so if you can stomach this, it should be much easier most of the time.
Take your CCNA off your resume. Employers likely won’t hire you for entry level roles like helpdesk because they know you’re going to bail as soon as you can.
Been unemployed for 6 months. The market is just in a rough time but it’s been worst since tiktok glamorized IT careers by saying they are remote and easy 6 figures.
Without job experience, it’s going to be difficult to land a help desk job even with a CCNA or other certification, but don’t let it discourage you, keep applying. Entry level IT jobs are very difficult to land, having a degree helps, having relevant certifications helps, but at the end of the day there are a lot of other people also applying for these jobs. Getting your degree will help, but still you’ll be up against all the other recent graduates and folks with experience all vying for those same jobs.
Ccna isn’t help desk though. Don’t know how t uh at helps those jobs Ccna is lore backend configs.
Probably network plus and a windows cert is better.
Apply to more jobs. Be willing to move, if you have some kind of safety net.
