#JobOffer #Onboarding #HR #JobSearch
Hey everyone, just wanted to share something that happened to me today and get your thoughts on it! 🤔
So, I was offered a job at a drug rehab facility, went through all the onboarding tasks, signed the offer letter, the whole nine yards. But then out of the blue, I received an email this morning saying they didn’t choose me for the role. Weird, right? 🤷♂️
I’m starting to wonder if this was just a mix-up on their end, especially since I was originally talking to a different HR person who is no longer there. Do you think it’s possible they made a mistake somewhere along the line?
I’m a bit stressed out because I’ve invested so much time into this process and now I’m back to square one. 😩
Any advice on what I should do next? Should I just wait for their response or start looking for other opportunities? Would love to hear your thoughts! 🤗
Possible solution:
– Continue following up with HR for clarification
– Keep searching for other job opportunities just in case
Can’t wait to hear what you all have to say! Let’s brainstorm together. 🧠💬
They probably forgot to update your application status in their system so when they closed out the vacancy (because hurrah, you’ve filled it!) all the pending applications got auto-rejected.
I think this was most likely a mistake. Most systems used for recruiting have a way of sending automated rejection emails to candidates. It was probably accidentally sent to you.
This happened to me with my current job. It was a mistake. Apparently there was another candidate with a similar name.
I’d put money on it being an honest mistake. Duplicate entries in the recruitment system most likely. Human Resources are only human themselves…. ~~humans in disguise as soulle…~~
If you have a start date, I’d just show up at the start date. The only time I’ve seen an issue is if it was contingent on a background check and something was revealed during the background check…
I also vote for mistake.
If it’s a new person, I can see them trying to close out an open that they had hired you for. Only to not check a box somewhere that showed you were hired and sent some kind of system generated “rejection” notice to any open applicants in the system. Even online platforms like Indeed have that feature (thanks, I hate it.) So I can absolutely see someone fat fingering that and it spitting out a rejection.
I once got two rejections and was like “Way harsh, bro!” but then after I started using the platforms, I noticed exactly how that would happen without it being intentionally done.
They just messed up closing out requisitions in their system. You still have a job. Show up on your start date.

I’ve done this by mistake, so for all of those people that I’ve done it to please allow me to apologize to you.
I really should have left my assistant take down the job post. Who knew that you were supposed mark the successful candidate “Hired?” 🤦♂️
I think mistake too. I once got a rejection letter when I was working there. I took it with me to work the next day, lol.
It was probably a mistake
I know it’s difficult not to panic, but this is almost certainly an ATS issue. Each applicant should be dispositioned, and if your now-departed recruiter didn’t disposition you as being hired, when someone else closed the posting as “filled” all of the remaining applicants who were not already marked as hired or rejected would get a generic rejection message.
If you’ve already received and signed an offer letter, and then something came up (e.g. issue with background check), they would formally rescind the offer.
Try to keep breathing until this gets sorted. 🙂
