Gym! It’s safer, warmer and dryer than outside
I usually enjoy exercising outside more than on a treadmill. But a treadmill is useful when it’s shitty weather, it’s dark or otherwise less safe, or I’m trying to be nice to my joints (sidewalks are fucking rough on my knees).
It’s mostly a safety thing for me but I workout before the sun rises most days.
When I am trying to increase my speed, I prefer to run on a treadmill, because it’s more controlled.
However, since recently I am doing a garmin plan to increase my running speed, and this only measures well when running outside. Because of this I am always running outside… and… now I prefer running outside! It’s the real deal. You get fresh air. You will be drained anyway afterwards (because of sweat). You get to see some nature. etc + you get to train some extra necessary things that you can’t train on a treadmill (because outside is “more varied” in terms of path

Having the moving belt below my feet is more encouragement to keep up the pace. I hate running, so if I’m just out on the street, it’s easy to just slow down and not put in as much effort

I like running outside in the summer and fall, and i run on a treadmill in the winter or on rainy days. what i like about the treadmill is that i can do sprint workouts a lot easier and I almost always run faster but for less time on a treadmill, and i feel amazing after that.
Because when I get tired, I don’t have to make my way back to the starting point – I just have to get off the treadmill.

Treadmill: if it’s too dark, rainy, dangerous outside, or if I want to run at a specific pace/incline.
Outside: if it’s nice out, there’s a pretty trail, running with friends, if a gym isn’t available.

Running on the treadmill feels like a chore, so I find running outside more enjoyable. Although I do find it more useful for interval workouts
For me, the downside of running outside is being too optimistic about the length of my run, running too far away from home, and then having to go all the way back
Iβm a beginner runner and the changing elevation and dodging people/things on the sidewalk is difficult for me. Also the stopping and going at every intersection is annoying
The roads around where I live aren’t safe. There’s no shoulder, they’re twisty and full of dangerous holes that are very hard to see unless it’s full daylight, and people drive too fast. I prefer to stay off them.
I generally prefer inside because I have more control over it. I like to control my incline and hit harder or less hard. I also have been attacked by a loose dog so that always makes me nervous.
Temperature control, better pacing, I can multi-task, and there’s no risk of harassment.

I feel like a buffalo on the treadmill. Outside is much exciting and refreshing
Gym, I’m clumsy so if I’m going to run and trip over at least I’m not in the middle of nowhere and my car is parked a few metres away.
I can listen to my music without intrusive thoughts that a car will hit me, itβs safer and I wonβt get harassed and the gym is a great temp all year round!

I like exercising at night and I’m not about to run around in some park in the middle of the night by myself. There’s weirdos around.
First and most importantly, it’s a safety issue. I’m not too keen on being catcalled and harassed. You would think that I am too old for that, but it still happens. Second, I like being able to control my work out and be sure that I’m not slacking off
