If you could change dating apps in any way you wanted, what would you change? 🤔
Dating apps have become an integral part of modern dating culture. With the pandemic pushing people to rely even more on virtual connections, it’s essential to consider the ways in which these apps can be improved to meet the changing needs of users. From interface design to matching algorithms, there are numerous areas in which dating apps could be enhanced. Let’s explore some possible changes that could revolutionize the dating app experience.
## User-Friendly Interface
One of the most significant changes that could be made to dating apps is the improvement of the user interface. This includes simplifying the navigation process and making it more intuitive for users to find what they’re looking for. Below are some ways in which the interface could be enhanced:
– **Streamlined Profile Creation**: Instead of lengthy questionnaires, a more efficient profile creation process could be implemented, such as integrating social media profiles to populate information.
– **Customizable Filters**: Users should be able to customize their search filters to find matches that align with their specific preferences.
– **Intuitive Messaging System**: A seamless and user-friendly messaging system is essential for fostering meaningful connections.
## Enhanced Privacy and Security
Privacy and security are paramount in the world of online dating. Users want to feel safe and secure while using dating apps. Here are some ways in which privacy and security could be enhanced:
– **Verification Process**: Implementing a robust verification process can help weed out fake profiles and ensure that users are interacting with genuine individuals.
– **Incognito Mode**: A feature that allows users to browse profiles anonymously could provide an added layer of privacy.
– **Strict Data Protection**: Ensuring that user data is protected and not shared with third parties without consent is crucial for building trust with users.
## Improved Matchmaking Algorithms
The core of any dating app is its matchmaking algorithm. Enhancing this aspect can significantly impact the success of the app. Some improvements could include:
– **Incorporating Compatibility Metrics**: Factors such as values, interests, and lifestyle preferences could be taken into account to improve the quality of matches.
– **Personality Assessments**: Integrating personality assessments could aid in more accurate matchmaking, leading to more meaningful connections.
– **Real-Time Matching**: Utilizing real-time data to suggest matches based on current activities and interests can make the matching process more dynamic.
## Inclusive Features
Dating apps should strive to be inclusive and cater to a diverse range of users. Implementing inclusive features can help create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all individuals. Some inclusive features to consider are:
– **Gender and Orientation Options**: Providing a wide range of gender and orientation options can ensure that all users feel represented and respected.
– **Language Support**: Offering multilingual support can make the app accessible to a global audience.
– **Accessibility Features**: Enhancing accessibility features, such as screen reader compatibility and adjustable font sizes, can make the app more inclusive for users with disabilities.
## Conclusion
In conclusion, the potential changes to dating apps are abundant and can greatly improve the experience for users. By focusing on user-friendly interfaces, enhanced privacy and security measures, improved matchmaking algorithms, and inclusive features, dating apps can evolve to better meet the needs of modern daters. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, it is imperative for dating apps to adapt and innovate in order to provide a fulfilling and enriching experience for their users.

Wouldn’t it be neat if a dating apps had background check capabilities?
– No felonies
– Never been arrested
– Single
– Good credit
You may use this dating app now, congratulations!!
I mean, you asked, and I hate dating apps, so brace yourself.
I would upend the concept entirely, What we have now isn’t working for anyone, and everyone hates them. If you want an app to facilitate romantic connection, it has to be radically different.
No more swiping.
No more “matching” based on nothing but appearance.
No more stupid pointless conversations in DMS. “Hi.”
Some way of figuring out physical chemistry between people.
Some way of introducing singles to each other based on actual personality.
I think the only way this is possible is a kind of facilitated event app. Like maybe you can browse people on the app (but not by photos, god) and maybe you see someone you have a lot in common with. Well what do you know, your city has an event coming up on Saturday, say broomball on the pond or beers at the basketball game or coffee and basket weaving, idk, and “Jack” or “Sophie” or “Chris” is marked as going to that event. You also mark yourself as going, and maybe there’s some way for you guys to identify each other when you get there to hang out in person. If you find out you’re just not right for each other when you meet, well, there’s a dozen other singles at the same event. Mingle a bit.
No more swiping, no more endless conversations. Just actual connecting and meeting and getting to know someone in real life. Just with an app to do the legwork of finding the other singles for you. It would be a lot safer (group activity for first encounter) and a hell of a lot more effective.
Filters! Bring back the old OkCupid. I want to shop for what I want and get it.
They would all be a lot less shitty without the monetization aspect. If people didn’t have to pay to use half the features of these apps and it was actually just about helping people find love, then I think they’d actually be very useful to people looking for relationships, but we all know that’s not gonna happen.
I would make it so there was a rating system, like Uber, and you could put reviews but there would be a set list of what you could say, like – “misrepresented” or “felt unsafe” etc. Or “back off, I saw him first” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
😂
Background checks
I can’t tell you how many fucking people I’ve met that have told me “I’ve never been arrested” and “I don’t have kids”
And they have both lol
I find it absolutely wild that it’s usually a paid feature on apps to be able to filter monogamous vs. non-monogamous people. That is an extremely basic functionality that all dating apps should offer for free.
As a polyamorous person, I don’t want to be shown any potential matches who only want monogamy, just as I’m sure that most monogamous people don’t want to be shown potential matches who are non-monogamous. Those matches would be non-starters.
Men create profiles that seem… like they are trying to attract other men? I don’t want to see you flashing me the middle finger; telling me about your sports teams; showing off your fish and dead animals; screaming and appearing out of control; and showing off weapons.
Ideally men would have some guidance about what women might want to see/read. Or might not want to see/read.
I don’t know how you could force people to get to know each other and eliminate unsolicited dick pics or lewd-insinuated content enough to actually figure out if this is a decent person.
It would have to be some type of matching, but you can only answer the prompts, and if your message is inappropriate or off-topic, you can’t send anything.
In order for this to work, it would have to be something like:
1. You match people, but you can only send 1 on-topic response every 24 hours. Anything off-topic or lewd or trying to meet off-app would get you blocked for a week, and tell the other person
2. You would have to keep it up, and as time goes on and you have a streak with this person like Snapchat streaks, the app lets you have a little more wiggle room like. A nudge or send a censored emoji.
3. Then, after 2 months to weed out thebad ones . You could do a video call, but again, the app would censor it, and if you said anything inappropriate, it would auto-block you.
4. At month 3, you could win the dating game and unlock each others contact information, but if it went bad, leave a review that would “warn” the next person, BUT the app team would read and censor it to see if it actually relevant and not trolling.
Only way I could see that working. Just a theory y’all don’t come after me
I hate the swiping and miss OKCupid the way it originally was. There were quizzes and they were great ice breakers. No time limits on messaging back. Anyone can message anyone. Being able to set filters for the things I know are deal breakers for me.
I wish it was more science backed on what leads to true compatibility. I’m swiping thinking I know what I want, but there’s so much about a persons personality not covered in a profile it really feels like a complete gamble when you go to meet someone, aside from filtering for obvious attributes… gender, relationship goals, age, etc.
Facebook dating is terrible, but one thing it did that I liked was try and match you with people in similar groups and events. Bumble somewhat does that with interests. I’d love to say what events I’m going to locally and see who I align with. Someone who shares those things seems like just speeding up the process of meeting. Or for me I’m really into music, I wish they’d find top matches based on music compatibility or something. Basically offering different ways of searching for people instead of just swiping with filters on.
To make sure the dating profile is honest and true. No fake profiles, no pictures that are photoshopped, and no fake information about him or herself. Scammers in dating apps should be banned from using one of the apps.
I’d require a minimum number of characters to be used in prompts and require a minimum amount of profile information and pictures.
I’d make the app send a random question to both people when they match, then the chat can proceed once both parties have answered so they have something to discuss instead of “Hi”.
I‘d ban users who have a fake name, fake job or education like “school of hard knocks”, uncensored photos of children’s faces, memes as photos, and would restrict users who’ve been reported for having hostile bios until they take some kind of training course.
Maybe only being able to match with 1 person a day so choose wisely? I only say this cuz talking to so many different people is all fun and games til you get so overwhelmed, just saying 🤷🏻♀️
This one’s for the lesbians/sapphics, but a way to ban all straight men and unicorns hunting couples from showing up in searches for those looking only for women.
i would make them not exist.
Have a “Hooks Ups” side and a “Relationship” side. It’s absolutely wild that dating apps mix these two groups.
