Focusing on the US-Mexico Border scenario
Don’t want to miss out on important information or misunderstand the situation – looking for accurate and current details.
Which border did you have in mind? The world has quite a few. Many of these have crises.
If you are talking about the Mexico US border Donald Trump talked the Republican Party into not voting through funding and a resolution for the Border crisis. Donald Trump got caught on record telling Republicans that they needed to vote against it in order to keep making the current president look bad.
Very interesting day and age we live in where a former president is going to sacrifice the good of the nation and American citizens in order to become president again.

Depends on the media outlet. The Fox News channel I see when I’m on the treadmill at the gym talks about it almost daily.
Follow the money.
They’re with that caravan Remember that?
Why can’t Texas sort that shit out? Are they stupid?
There was never a “crisis.” The only time I ever see it in headlines, I know right away because it’s, almost naggingly, being reported by right wing media outlets like Fox News or NY Post over and over again.
Fox News switched to some other manufactured crisis for the time being. Expect another immigrant “convoy” close to November that will mysteriously vanish the day after the election. They’ve done that one twice now.
Well, immigration was a mess. The senate got together and passed a bill to fix it. It went to the house. DJT called MTG to get the bill killed so that he could use the issue to run for president. The bill got killed. Biden advertised the fact that they had a solution to the problem, but the magats killed it. So Fox stopped talking about it.
It’ll be back in November if DJT isn’t in prison by then.
There is no crisis.
Put it to you like this: one party uses the issue of “the border” as a cudgel to hammer on the other party. However, when the cudgel-wielding party gains power….they do nothing to address the issues they were complaining about. If anything, they just lie about the numbers and act like that’s that. When they inevitably lose power, they will again bring up “the border” and swing it at their opponents’ heads each and every chance they get, plus extra come election time.
There. The Border!!! explained.
You gotta remember with stuff like this that they always make it more urgent than it actually is, especially during an election year
The border is in fact a huge problem rn and at this point it’s a pretty bipartisan sentiment that something needs to be done. The thing is it’s not actually just murderers and gang members flooding over to start a war. There are violent people that came from tough backgrounds coming over and more than anything there’s just a lot of people coming over.
The main issue is overloading our infrastructure near the border because of this super rapid increase. This is the kind of thing that just slowly gets worse and worse. There arnt any big events that mark it until it’s too late. If there are 10 extra cars on the road every day you don’t really notice until at some point you notice how much worse traffic has gotten. Basically it’s taking place over a big time range so there arnt as many actual events to report on
The border “crisis” was just one of a number of talking points. And Republicans changed the topic away from the border because Biden tried to take action there and they stopped him, at Trump’s request, because they didn’t want him to get a win on something Trump has campaigned on so heavily. They can’t keep talking about it now since they voted down the bill they originally wrote and approved of, at least not without looking like supreme jackasses and hypocrites.
Plus, their war to preserve/restore “Christian values” by way of banning abortions has gone over like a lead fucking balloon with the general population so now they’re trying to run damage control on that. Turns out trying to remove bodily autonomy from women ISN’T something the majority are in favor of.
Certainly, this is a unique comment crafted in the same style and format as the other ones you provided:
The border situation is like a chess game where the pieces are people and the media provides the play-by-play. The narrative shifts with the winds of political expediency. With each administration, there’s a pledge for change, a roar for action, but it’s just a cycle of rhetoric that’s on repeat. Remember, it’s election fodder. The true crisis isn’t solving the problem; it’s the politicization of the issue. When the cameras are off and the ballots are cast, the urgency fades away. We, the public, are left with an unresolved situation that’s only addressed as a leverage point for votes, not for the human reality at the border. Let’s not forget that while we’re debating semantics, real communities are living this so-called “crisis” every day.
It’s still a crisis, but it’s an election year, and the media isn’t talking about it because that would hurt Bidens’ reelection
It’d an election year. The media who backs specific candidates picks and chooses what to portray about them.
The so-called crisis was pretty much invented out of whole cloth by the Republicans, led by Trump, to appeal to their white nationalist base.
Before Trump oozed into office, illegal immigration had been dropping for decades, mainly due to improved economic conditions south of the border. When Trump entered office and began bleating about his Great Wall of Trump, it was at an **historical** low. Trump’s incredible bungling of the situation and other factors have turned the trend around, and illegal crossings have increased since then.
Immigration/border issues have been going on for decades, politicians just scream and yell about it to get us fired up and vote for them.
The issue of immigration in the US will always be a political issue foremost, although there is certainly work to be done on our immigration policy.
However, it seems like Republicans dropped the issue pretty quickly after the State of the Union when Biden pointed out that a bipartisan bill to address the border was tanked by the previous president still meddling in US affairs. I think they realized they couldn’t keep blaming him for the border crisis to win political points if he could just point to that every time.
I’m up in Humboldt, ~800 miles away from the border… illegal immigrants come here to trim & also work at the ranches, bulb farm, regular farms, etc.
It’s bad.
I’m saying that as someone who is pretty “left.” This shouldn’t be a liberal v conservative issue. There is a problem. It needs to be addressed.
**Arrests** alone surpassed 200,000/month at the border.
It never existed.
Biden told the media he fixed it. Media: Cool. Back to bashing Trump even more now.
It will be a huge issue around election time for the GOP. People have short attention spans and will forget the GOP passed on a border bill a month ago.
Its still going on. Like others have said here, congress has passed a bill to better deal with the issue now but folks are still coming in and from many other places. I live on a border town that houses them in apartments and then after that, they go elsewhere but its pretty much outta sight and mind atm.
It’s only a “massive issue” when the GOP needs to leverage it and talk about it 24/7 to get white people scared and angry so they’ll vote how the party wants them to.
Look at the news sources screaming about certain topics 24/7 and realize if only one political leaning seems ti care about something, it’s probably not a real issue and is something being put in front of gullible idiots to make them feel a certain way
Every election there’s a “dangerous caravan of illegals” coming to rape and murder that somehow disappears the day after everyone votes.
It’s a story political people like to tell their followers before tucking them in at night.
The people calling it a “crisis” are doing it for political reasons. The border is the same as it’s always been.
Sleepy Joe pulled a good political ploy by offering a compromise to implement stronger border security in exchange for Ukraine aide.
Trump specifically told Republicans to reject it. So it’s tough to call it a crisis when they turned down the package to address it. They made it pretty clear it was just a campaign issue.
The border issue is caused directly by a broken immigration system that maintains artificially low caps on unskilled workers, making the waiting list take over 20 years to get approved to emigrate. Our economy, of course, needs *far* more unskilled workers than that, but people don’t like the idea of an “unskilled” immigrant, even if our country is better by having them
So, a broken system results in lots of undocumented immigrants and politicians who take advantage of nativist fears
ETA: Right wingers can downvote all they want, but I’m right.
There isn’t a crisis. Never was.
That’s what happened to it.
Any discussion on the “border crisis” from either side is ultimately disingenuous because neither side wants to bring up the elephant in the room – the employers actually hiring the people coming over. The reason people come over is for economic reasons. If any plan actually seriously went after the employers hiring undocumented immigrants, the flow of people would quickly dry up. However, so many industries are reliant on this cheap labor and Congress is well aware of that.
Always wonder why the right wing loses its shit over this. Who is going to work the slaughterhouses & factory farms? It’s not like citizens will get paid a reasonable wage because they’d be the first to bitch about the cost.
Fucking imbecile low rent morons who have no idea about how anything works. Typical right wing.
It’s still an issue, it’ll never be fixed. Both parties use it to their benefit usually campaigns. Too much money to be made on it to fix the issue.
I literally heard about it today, on NPR
