What are my options if I regret pursuing an MBA and English degree and feel lost in my career?
Background:
I have an MBA and English degree, but I’m currently working in retail and feeling stuck. I originally had a scattered academic journey, starting at a community college and then transferring to a university where I pursued an English degree due to limited options.
Concerns:
I regret my choice of degrees and feel like I want to start fresh, but I’m unsure of how to do so.
Questions:
- What other career paths can I explore with my current degrees?
- How can I transition from retail to a different field?
- What steps can I take to pivot my career towards a more fulfilling direction?

Have you considered teaching? I’ve seen plenty of private schools post jobs and I’m sure you’d be a good candidate. Otherwise I would look on indeed and see what field draws your interest.
Work in your relevant field. Working retail jobs that don’t require any education is pure insanity.
Why don’t you write about business
Have you applied to internships? With an MBA, unless it’s from a garbage program., Id expect you could get *something*

Your degrees don’t dictate your life. What do you want? What is the entry level for that? Are there other entry level feeder roles?
Call up one of the hundreds of people you took a college class with and ask them what they do and if they are hiring.
Those are two of the most generalized degrees. You can work in a huge variety of fields. HR might be an interesting route since it’s less number and more people driven.
You should be able to pivot into SOMETHING with an MBA, even if it’s sales.
