I’d say for C-suite as in CFO, it’s FP&A. For CEO positions (in commercial banks) you’ll have to work in front office positions in said firms. Both positions are extremely rare and unlikely to obtain however, especially at larger firms.
Starting in Commercial Banking offers a solid foundation in finance and client relations. FP&A provides in-depth financial analysis skills. Both paths can lead to the C-suite, but Commercial Banking may align better with broader business strategy, while FP&A offers a specialized financial focus. Consider your strengths and long-term goals.
All of these people are just taking shots in the dark. The truth is that neither of these are great.
You can literally start making fries at McDonald’s and end up in their C suite. That’s happened with them more than once.

C-Suite of what? Of a bank then commercial banking. Of a manufacturing then FP&A is a common path to CFO.
The answer is FP&A don’t listen to anyone else, doing that can get you to a CFO role faster than Commercial Banking.
This is like asking if it’s better to study Human Anatomy or Computer Science to become a surgeon and people telling you to study computer science for whatever reason they’ve cooked up.
Commercial Banking can get you to be head of Commercial Banking and maybe C Suite if you’re very very lucky, with FP&A you’re already on the track.
Don’t believe me? Google CFO roles and look at their requirements, I doubt you’ll find one that only wants Commercial Banking experience.
