Do a lot of people have attorneys on hand? I’m going through a phase of watching arrest videos and it seems like everyone screams “let me call my lawyer!” Why?
It’s a common trope in TV shows and movies – the moment someone gets in trouble with the law, they immediately demand to speak to their lawyer. But is this just fiction, or do a lot of people actually have attorneys on hand? Let’s dive into the world of legal representation and find out why having a lawyer on standby is more common than you might think. 😅
## Why do people have attorneys on hand?
1. **Legal expertise**: One of the main reasons why people have attorneys on hand is for their legal expertise. A lawyer can offer guidance and advice on legal matters, such as what to say and do when confronted by law enforcement.
2. **Protection of rights**: Having a lawyer on standby ensures that your rights are protected during any legal proceedings. Your attorney can help navigate the legal system and make sure you are treated fairly.
3. **Immediate assistance**: In the heat of the moment, when facing a legal issue, having a lawyer on standby means you can quickly get the help you need without having to search for representation at the last minute.
4. **Peace of mind**: Knowing that you have a lawyer ready to assist you can provide peace of mind in uncertain situations. It’s like having a safety net for legal emergencies.
5. **Preparation for potential legal issues**: By having a lawyer on hand, you are prepared for any potential legal issues that may arise. It’s always better to be proactive and have legal representation readily available.
## Is having a lawyer on standby common?
While not everyone may have a personal attorney on speed dial, having access to legal representation is more common than you might think. Here are some reasons why:
1. **High-stress situations**: When facing a legal issue, such as being arrested or involved in a lawsuit, the stress and uncertainty can be overwhelming. Having a lawyer on standby can provide much-needed support and guidance during these difficult times.
2. **Risk management**: In today’s litigious society, the risk of facing legal action is always present. Having a lawyer on hand can help mitigate this risk by providing legal advice and representation when needed.
3. **Professional relationships**: Many individuals and businesses establish professional relationships with attorneys for ongoing legal needs. This can include drafting contracts, handling real estate transactions, or providing general legal counsel.
4. **Legal compliance**: With ever-changing laws and regulations, having a lawyer on standby can ensure that you are in compliance with the law. Your attorney can help navigate the complexities of the legal system and keep you informed of any changes that may affect you.
5. **Financial considerations**: While hiring a lawyer can be costly, having a lawyer on standby can actually save you money in the long run. By avoiding legal pitfalls and disputes, you can potentially prevent costly litigation and legal fees.
In conclusion, while not everyone may have a lawyer on speed dial, having access to legal representation is more common than you might think. Whether it’s for legal expertise, protection of rights, or peace of mind, having a lawyer on standby can provide valuable support in times of need. So the next time you find yourself in a legal bind, you’ll know why so many people scream “let me call my lawyer!” 👩💼👨⚖️
“My lawyer” is just whatever lawyer you call. No need to have one in your pocket.
Find one, then you get one.
They all do have attorneys, and their phone number is “411”
No, its a vain attempt at intimidating a police officer.
Any good lawyer will tell you outright that when you’re being arrested is not the time to debate law. That time is when you’re in the station or in the court. But out there on the road, you’re best bet is being respectful and just go with the flow. Unless you’re a health risk, then 100% speak up and say something.
But if you can afford it? It is very beneficial to have a relationship with a legal advisor.
I’ve had issues just dropping in links, but look up Attorney Shield. Its a cell phone network of connected lawyers that you can call when pulled over. A few you tubes on the topic can be fund under LackLuster
Yes. I do.
The rules are that when you ask for a lawyer, all questioning must stop. The police at that point have to stop asking questions relating to the crime they suspect you of, without a lawyer present.
You can hire one or have the court appoint one, but the questioning must stop or they can’t use what they glean in court.
I’m married to my lawyer but he doesn’t practice criminal law so not sure how helpful he’d be in a situation involving police.
Most don’t have one on retainer. You ask for a lawyer before talking to the police. They allow you to find a lawyer, then they tell you to continue not talking to the police.
My divorce attorney became our “let me call my lawyer”
My whole family uses him or if the legal service we need is something that he does not have expertise with, he will refer us to someone he knows that can help us.
My brother, best friend and their friends are all attorneys in different fields so I do. Ive used them before. Im in the minority im sure
Some companies allow you to enroll in a legal services program for a low monthly fee, like you do with health insurance.
Personally, I do. Career criminals probably. DUIs…mmm reflex?
I don’t have an attorney on hand but I do have the number of a lawfirm in my phone that I would use if I were to get in to trouble.
I’ve dealt with them before, granted it was for a will and not a criminal thing but they handle criminal law as well and my limited dealings with them left me confident in their abilities.
I know a lawyer and while she doesn’t do that type of law, thats who I’d call since she knows who I should call and she can refer me lol
I dont have one or a firm i pay a retainer fee for, but I do have a law office I’ve used for other than criminal matters (estate and trust planning, commercial and residential property), and they do have a criminal division I would use. It has a 24/7 line so an attorney is always on call.
I can tell you I work in an ER, and every single person who has said they want to call their attorney has been handed a phone to do, not one made a call. If I had a nickel for every time someone said they were going to sue me…..
By the Consititution, if you can’t afford a lawyer, you get one anyway.
They heard it said on TV 📺
You get in legal trouble once and then you have a lawyer. I have three I can call. It’s not just if you do something wrong, someone could have done something to you.
If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed to you.
If the video is interesting enough for you to be watching its probably a big case ie robbery/homicide etc and then its probably not the suspect’s first time. The criminal justice system sees like 15% of the population but on repeat.
Let’s be honest, their lawyers are typically court appointed
In my experience, the people who actually *have* a lawyer appropriate to the situation don’t tell you they’re going to call their lawyer. They also don’t *threaten* to sue you, they just go and file a lawsuit.
Saul Goodman
Mostly people trying to b.s. the Cops [[who don’t care]] or the other party [[who doesn’t care either]] in hopes of not getting jailed.

“OH! You have an Attorney? I’m so sorry-here let me remove those Cuffs! Would you like a Donut? Need a Ride?”
I think they think the cops will back off when a lawyer gets involved because they think somehow lawyers are going to make this go away.
No thats rich people shit hunny
They are all exercising their right to be silent. I’ve watched enough of these shows to know when they are reading you the Miranda the only reply “call me an attorney” never speak to the cops/detectives.
From watching arrest videos, I’ve come to believe that people seem to like using that line, thinking that it’s supposed to keep the police from detaining/arresting them and taking them to the station. It doesn’t, it just keeps them from asking questions of you relevant to the investigation. You want to call your lawyer? You can call them from the station. Until then, you do what the officer tells you to do or else that’s resisting.
I couldn’t find one so I gamed the system and got a law degree.
