#JobSearch #CareerChange #NoCollegeDegree
Hey there, fellow job seekers! 🌟
So, I recently made a drastic decision to quit my job of over 25 years in my late 40’s with no college degree. I know, it sounds crazy, doesn’t it? But sometimes, you just gotta put your happiness and well-being first, right?
Here’s a little background on my situation: I climbed the ladder within the same company, starting from a temporary role to eventually reaching a high-level position, making decent money. But the stress and lack of work-life balance eventually took a toll on me, leading me to resign.
Now, I’m facing the daunting task of finding a new job without a college degree. The job market can be intimidating, especially when most roles require some form of higher education. So, how difficult will it be for me to find a job with my experience alone?
Here are a few things I’m considering, and maybe they could help you too:
– Leveraging my extensive experience in the industry to showcase my skills and expertise.
– Networking with professionals in my field to explore potential job opportunities.
– Considering alternative career paths or industries where a degree may not be a prerequisite.
What do you think? Any advice or insights on navigating the job market without a college degree would be greatly appreciated. Let’s support each other in this journey! 💼✨
Did you quite for a reason or emotions got the best of you and you told your boss to kick rocks? I’d say all is not lost, you’ll eat dirt for a bit but something worth your time will pop up. When that is, only god knows. I’m a firm believer that a degree don’t mean much cause I’m sure I could train someone without an engineering degree to do my job, and I’m not even kidding!
Honestly – probably not the smartest move to leave your job without something lined up.
Unless you are living rent or mortgage free and have the financial runway to support yourself for the next 3-5 years, I wouldn’t have done this without a plan personally.
Get in touch with past bosses and coworkers to keep their eyes and ears open for you. Ask them to be references. Get your resume top notch focusing on the various positions you had within the company. Don’t dwell on the college degree. Anybody hiring would take mounds of experience over a college degree and no experience. Ignore the “college degree required” and apply anyways. Lastly, do not get down on yourself if you don’t hear back from companies. It’s hard to get their attention through all the hiring noise.
25 years.. you’re an expert, go get your bag. Try to connect with ppl in your industry on linked in or at events. You must have competition that you could go work for?
We have a GWA General warehouse associate that came from Amazon. She was an OPS manager. She claims she was pulling 130K a year there. Any way they came in and fired a bunch if people and the. She was being way stressed out and almost suffering a mental. Reak down due to working ao much. So she quit there after being in that position for over 4 years. She was off for 18 months before she was out of money and decided to go all the way to the bottom again with our company and just be a GWA.
You will find another job in warehousing no problem. Just Wil take some time. Tough job market rofhr now. Be prepared for 6 months no job easily. Hope you have money saved up! Do door dash and grub hub delivery part time while you are off to keep busy and earn money. It will only feel like $12/hr sometimes but better than nothing.
You should probably go take that old position at $85k. You can still look for new jobs while working your old job, and the stress of being unemployed won’t hang so heavy on your mind if it takes a while for a new opportunity to come through. I’m sure you can find something eventually, but it could easily take many months. Even assuming you have enough of a nest egg to last that long its still stressful watching your savings disappear without any assurances that something will come around to replace it.
It seems like you didn’t hate your previous role nearly as much as your new one so it doesn’t seem like it would be entirely soul sucking to go back. Maybe if your previous employer is willing to wait a little while you can take a month or 2 off for a vacation and clear your head before returning, which might also put you in a better headspace for the job hunt. I personally just don’t like the uncertainty so I wouldn’t quit without having something already lined up to replace it.
The right things in life are not easy to swallow most times. So yes you should accept the old position and then should look ahead. Or do this while in the 100k position by trying to survive and looking for another position.
I wish you luck and please update the thread if anything happens.
My advice is to communicate if you have any industrial network that you look out for a new job.
It’s a one in a million chance, but there’s only one of you. Stand out go visit the companies, take lessons on areas your weak in,be willing to work for a month for free. Read discipline equals freedom and lead up the chain. It’s your life don’t worry about what’s possible worry about what your gonna do
Get some!
IMO: longevity at a company has a lot of appeal to employers. They know you probably take abuse and don’t walk away. 🙃
Maybe you can find something decent with your experience but idk if you’re gona see 80k easily. I get you though, I had a job paying me 50k per year, it was good money for me at the time and I left because I couldn’t take it anymore. I started doing doordash and instacart. I could barely pay my bills but I was happy lmaooo.
